Camouflage

It might make an interesting dynamic in the game to be able to purchase camouflage for your ship.
Not to hide it from view but to disguise it's type in supercruise (or maybe even project a different type).
I just think it would be funny for a pirate to pull me out of SC thinking I'm a winder only to find I'm a fully tooled up Viper
It may also hel alleviate the griefing that some people are complaining about.

Oh, you mean like if you get targeted in supercruise you'll show up as a sidewinder on their scanner instead even though when you get interdicted you'll be in a cobra or something?

Hm. I suppose it could be possible to mask your ships signature and fool a scanner into seeing something else. Would need input from more lore-aware people on that first.

As for what I think, not sure. I guess it could be a motivator for buying better scanners so you don't get fooled. I'm sure it would also cause a lot of confusion and frustration though "what was that? lag? a bug? is the game broken? is he hacking?".


Anyway, interesting idea but I'm not sure what to think about it.

My 2p on this subject is as follows;

I personally feel that the mechanic, while interesting, takes away from the knowledge of the fight. Players should know what they are up against before they engage. This means people who are attempting to FS Interdict should be allowed to know what they are about to pounce on. Similarly, a player in a cargo ship should know the risks and not try to disguise themselves as something else.

Plus, imagine this scenario; I disguise myself as a Sidewinder or Hauler to bait people into FS Interdicting me. Little do they know I'm a fully kitted-out combat Viper/Cobra/Whatever.

Now, one of two things happens;

1 - The player who interdicted me sees I am in fact NOT a hauler, and is interested in piracy, so they leave me alone. I have no valuable cargo.

2 - The player who interdicted me sees I am not WANTED, turns around and leaves for something better to kill.


This type of item seems to only work in two areas, both of which I don't find interesting;

1 - It enables haulers to hide in SC as something they are not, making trading even safer.

2 - It enables griefers to pose as something they are not, trapping people into just being PvP'd/attacked for no reason etc. I don't mind PvP but I do hate being tricked into doing it. Fight me up front or not at all.

It's a nice idea, I'm just not sure what it's niche would be.

I'm down, because it's a two way street. It'd be great to get some friends together and go gooning in a popular trade area, then watch the confusion as the traders try to figure out why they're being interdicted when there's nothing but a bunch of type 6's around.
