Can I do solo cargo missions with a friend?

I'm just curious. I know I can do wing cargo missions solo, but is it possible to haul small solo cargo missions with a friend?

Theres a thing called trade dividends. I think it's just for a straight cargo sale, not missions. But basically if your wing mate is within proximity to the station while you're selling cargo, your wingmate will get a cut (without detracting from you) that he can redeem at the station contacts. I believe that there are ways to increase the dividend through powerplay, but I'm not sure.

There's also nothing wrong with joining up at the same station and choosing similar missions as each other. Combat missions can sort of be shared and made easier that way, but cargo would just be extra company unless it was a wing mission.

Yep, trade dividends are the answer.

These were designed with the intent of one or more escorts flying along side of a large trade ship - like who has time for that anyways? But since they're flying escort, the dividend pays them for their support.

I've done this with/for new players on a few occasions - or as a special surprise when I'm hauling something ridiculous, like 400+ tons of taafeitte, pop into a station and ask "Who wants some free credits?", fill my wing, sell my haul, and watch people go "Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot did you just sell?!"

Awesome thank you guys! I'm trying to get my friend back into the game. He quit after realizing that he has to grind, so I wanted to send him some credits to get a better ship so maybe he can change his mind. But since you can't just give money away, I think this will be the quickest way. I will try dividend missions!

According to Yamiks' vid, if you do wing missions with only 2 players, you still only get paid 1/4. Dunno if this is true, but if it is, it needs to be fixed.

From the perspective of one player that's not true. Every player gets the same amount, not relevant if you're solo or in a wing of 2-4. The mission payout is always per player, e.g. 10mln -> solo you get 10, in 4 player wing everyone gets 10 (total 40). That's why some are complaining about "magic money".

It kind of defeats the object of the term solo if there are more than one of you.....Unless your name is Hans of course.

But there is no reason for such missions for not being able to be completed in a wing.

Some beginners would like to share a 15t, 10ly mission (like me, when I started the game with a few friends), some will solo a 2000t, 100ly mission.

No they're not missions.

Trade Dividends are paid out on standard commodities trading. Nothing to do with missions what so ever but they can be lucrative once you've gained a handle on how the economy works in Elite Dangerous.

I once did a trade CG where we were transporting goods. I was in a Python at the time. I linked up with a T7 and a Viper 3 who were playing together. The T7 and I hauled the bulk of the goods while the Viper flew escort. If the T7 got interdicted they'd drop with us following in. The Viper played the fast interdictor keeping them off the T7 while I was heavy support in the Python.

Since the Viper didn't have much cargo most of their money was made off the Trade Dividends when the T7 and I unloaded our cargo. They also got the most of their money off the bounties we made along the way.

When a player unloads their commodities cargo, they get full value. If there is another player in the wing, the station will calculate the total value of the goods sold and then give all other players in a wing a voucher for 20% WITHOUT penalizing the seller. This counts for everyone. So depending on the ship types and cargo available, you can make 160% of the value of a commodity with a full wing of players in coordination.

Mining can also be lucrative this way. One ship can be the large mining barge while the rest play combat escorts. Every so often the large ship can 'vent' fully processed cargo for it's combat escorts to haul so they can get a cut. When everyone's cargo hold is full, everyone returns to base. The mining barge get's it full load sold and the combat ships can get paid triple over for the dividends, bounties for intercepting and killing pirates, as well as selling their cargo obtained from the barge. This is how HAZREZ sites were meant to work since they have the highest concentration of the rarest and most expensive goods. With no cops to show up, players have to defend themselves.

I'd be more then happy to give you and your friend an in-game demonstration on how it all works if necessary but part of the fun is learning how it works yourselves.

Also all commanders have to be present in same instance or they won't get the dividends from cashing in while in a wing. So no winging up only to take a bath expecting to come back to a big fat check.

Lots of good advice already given, but I wanted to chime in to say typically you'll both see the same sp missions on the mission board if you both open it around the same time, but the payouts will be different if you have different rep and ranks.

We've run a lot of sp missions this way by looking for missions going to the same station and then following each other there.

If it's only one jump Wingman Navlock works well as when the leader drops out of Supercruise the follower also drops out (well, as long as he's within a certain distant) which is cool if one of you gets interdicted.

But I don't like using navlock for multiple jumps since the leader usually have to wait around at each star for the follower to show up - wish they would change this :-(
