Can I hire npc's to protect my miner?

Hi guys- Thanks for all the prior advice on mining. Works great with my Python! I appreciate all the help.

Question: Can I hire some NPC's to protect my ship from enemy NPC's that try to interdict and destroy me to get my cargo?

I play solo by the way. Not talking about players, just enemy npc's.

If you are mining void opals, or anything in an icy ring, once you have blown an asteroid apart, you can hide inside it because your heat signature goes very low. That's useful if, after a bit of mining you quit the game and want to come back ..... slip inside to reduce your heat signature so it's difficult for NPCs to find you.

If NPCs are making life difficult for you, boost away from them, keep boosting and they will lose interest. Not sure what your max boost speed is, but it could be plenty.

Practice escaping interdictions. NPCs are horrible at it. Getting an SLF for a mining ship is just a waste of space and money.

I disagree CMDR.

I use this Type-9 to mine in double Panite hotspots. Due to frequent disconnects (not really FDevs fault, and they're improving) I often have to face the pirate respawn and after about 50-60 mining ops I've only had to run once.

I could use that class 5 internal for extra cargo space but then my sanity might well suffer beyond redemption.

Some ships can load fighters and hire NPC pilots to protect. When mining I never used them nor did I ever go to a targeted resource on a ring around a planet. I always decided my own entrance per a ring based on Internet info providing the exact rings I want to check out. Without cargo any NPC pirates scan then leave and never bother you again. Hiring NPCs to protect your miner ship is just an addon. Protecting your ship and having a combat/escape plan works so much better. Your play style may differ.

Drop in without cargo. Wait for the 2 or 3 ships to scan you and leave. Start mining. I doubt you'll see another ship.

While in supercruise, don't spend a lot of time here or there. I've never met a pirate NPC that worried me at all, not even when I was flying a shieldless T9.

It's not mining thats really a problem, it's going to the station where i'm trying to sell. They interdict and interdict lol. I can get out of it most of the time, but not always.

Try mining in ships like the cutter. From my experience, cutter is a ship that is both fastastic at mining and can really show pirates who's the boss. :)

If I was an NPC crewman on 10% profit cut, I would definitely be looking for a gig protecting an void opal miner.

Or put another way, you''ll be paying your crewman maybe 10MCr per hour. For that price, I'd learn to protect myself.
