Newcomer / Intro Can I make a profit by mining and selling but by just going to the closest places and not doing any

I eventually gotta find someone who likes doing all the nerd reading and number crunching I'd rather do the actual gameplay stuff so if I get the mining gear and just keep going to the closest asteroids without even looking if they have anything worthwhile in them shoot them with lasers fill my thing up go to the nearest system sell it all would that make more or less or equal money to having a hauler with all 4 and a 2 cargo holds and doing cargo transport missions?

I'm asking because at least mining is slightly less boring than transporting cargo I'll go from 100% bored to 99% bored but it's a big investment I could upgrade my whole ship for better cargo runs if cargo runs are the better option please help me avoid a lot of work for nothing, I'm pretty sure just randomly mining isn't gonna work out too good if I were to make a guess but I just really want to confirm it for that 1% boredom reduction



besides this and combat is there anything else to do in this game yet?

Yes you can make a profit.

However if you are 100% or 99% bored by the game why are you wasting time playing it? Just go do something that doesn't bore you.

thanks I guess to quote the best rapper ever Baby, it's time for me to "Get My Mine On" and thank you for the ride when will you be here and thank you for buying me a wetsuit I know it's winter and I can't kayak without one I don't know how you knew I'd rather be kayaking right now than playing elite dangerous but don't have a vehicle or a wetsuit at the moment and are doing all this for me so I don't have to play elite dangerous you are a wonderful person give me just 15 minutes to get ready don't rush to get here the roads are icy as hell

oh and also because I didn't spawn with a giant ship full of giant guns that kills everyone and everything instantly so I have to do this boring junk to get to that DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

you make more money with less time trading commodities. but if u like mining which u probably don't. look at the info page in the system map when u click and asteroid or planet with rings. it tells u what kind of deposits r there and what condition they r in. u want to be looking for pristine or common or good reserves. you also want to be looking for metallic deposits not rocky or icy. metal rich is ok but metallic is where its at.
