Can I pay off an active bounty?

Step by Step guide

1. buy sidewinder and go to where the bounty was(not strictly needed, but best be safe)
2. Wing up with a friend with a KWS and drop to normal space(not in super cruise), using a wing beacon
3. De-wing once you are in the same part of space and can see them there
4. Ask your friend to drop his shields and attack your friend so you get a higher bounty, not a fine (dont kill him though. it wont help you)
5. He then KWS you and it will show up as you having a say 10K bounty
6. He then blows you up
7. pay off the legacy bounty at the place where you got the bounty or a populated low security system

Given all the talk of suiciding, maybe it's too late, but still....

Does the faction that handed-out these missions still exist anywhere?
If you've still got the chance to hand-in those missions, use EDDB to locate every system where they're still the controlling faction and you should be able to go to one of those systems, to the appropriate station, and hand-in the missions.

Just had to do a similar hing myself.
Completed a bunch of missions for a faction, haven't played for a couple of months, came back to find that I've got Cr10m of rewards waiting but I've got to schlepp half way across the bubble to a system where that faction still controls a station.

As of today it still works, but when 2.4 hits it appears they are changing it so you pay the rebuy for the most expensive ship you used during your 'crime spree'. So after that, it will work but won't save you much money :)

Which is why I, when this becomes a thing, will make use of an alternate method to "stick it to the man", by buying a disposable Suicidewinder, getting blown up, and then declining the rebuy, going back to my starter system, being placed into a Freewinder, flying that to where my fleet is parked, selling the Freewinder as scrap, and resuming my normal activities.

That makes absolutely NO sense at all. [where is it]

Last time I got a significant bounty on me (leading to me leaving the game for a couple of months) it was cos I was taking a ship to an engineer.
I was landed on the surface (looking for a mat' I was short of), my ship got attacked by 4 bandits, I spaced 'em, that violated the engineer's no-fire zone and I got a bounty.

So, hypothetically speaking, that could have happened while I was taking my Cr1bn Corvette for an upgrade.
I then park-up my Corvette, return to running missions in my Asp, get attacked by a bounty-hunter, my Asp gets destroyed... and I have to pay the re-buy on the Corvette which is still safely parked-up at my home-base?

It's just bonkers.
It's like deciding to streamline the legal system by just launching a TOW missile at the house where a criminal is thought to live. [sad]

Similar things actually happen. It's just your bit of realism seeping into the game, like an unwanted mould in the walls. The feds obviously want to set an example when people break the law.

Not sure if I agree with the sentiment, but when FD gets rid of the suicide sidewinder may also take away the free opition, at least whlle there is still an outstanding bounty or legacy fine :)

This works for either Fines or bounties and or dormat bounties. The basic difference is though you may owe a fine, you don't have a wanted status. Which is basically a shoot on site issue.

I just got a bounty for apprently hauling a bad guy. The bounty was issued because I was scanned on the way in. It's 6,000

Having no other missions, I ordered my Sandie sent to me, and stored my Dolphin. Storage free, shipping was 1,100

Left station and hung just outside until scaned. 10 seconds later, BOOM,

At rebuy checked only the Sandie, nothing else, cost 560 or 650, I forget.

Wanted is gone but the bounty, turned to fine.

Not wanted left station, waited for scan, 10 seconds later, BOOM

Rebuy basic stripped Sandie cost 560 or 650, still don't remember

Stored it, switched back to Dolphin.

Total cost including bounty, shipping, and two rebuys at 560 and 650 total was 8,310.

Subtracting the original bounty of 6,000 it only cost 2,310 extra. Which is cheap considering duress, time, and having to rebuy your actual ship if and when BOOM.

Just smuggle yourself into the station, turn in your mission(s), claim your rewards, buy a suicidewinder and go hang around in front of the station until someone puts you out of your misery.

In my experience, the suicidewinder route means you need to be scanned by an authority ship (or commander) in order to see and collect your bounty, otherwise it just resets. The station cannot collect your bounty, so getting destroyed by it doesn't work. You might be able to pay it off at a factor in a low security system, I've done that with legacy fines/bounties but not sure if you can do it with a dormant one.
Good luck!

You are correct, you need to be scanned (so the bounty becomes active) and then destroyed by system authority otherwise it just resets the dormant bounty timer back to 7 days.

You can't pay off any bounty, active or dormant, anywhere. You can pay off fines including legacy fines (which is what bounties and dormant bounties turn into once their timer expires) either at a station where the faction that held the bounty has a presence or as you suggest at Interstellar Factors which you should be able to find at a station in a low security system. You will pay a 25% fee for paying them at Interstellar Factors.

Worth noting that the suicidewinder route is likely going to be made obsolete by FD in an upcoming update, and if you are destroyed with a bounty then the re-buy will be calculated on the ship you were using when you acquired the bounty.
