Newcomer / Intro Can I play smoothly with only 3mbps?

Hi, I'm just new and looking around, I'm really interested with the game and really reminds me of my old favorite game from Microsoft "Freelancer", I was hoping to ask if I can get smooth gameplay with only a 3mbps internet connection... would the lag be tolerable to play with...? Are there any other players out there with similar low speed like mine? What's the experience like... Thank you... if it plays smoothly I'm thinking of going ahead and purchasing the game... :)

Aye, during the Beta and Gamma I regularly restricted my games PC to download speeds sub 1MB/s in order to convince myself that I could one day move to a village and still play :) No probs!

1 mb/s is different to 1 MB/s. 1mb/s is 125 KB/s, you'd run into problems at that speed.

thank you for the replies... hmm..

my download speeds vary from 70 to 160 kB/s... would that do...? I'm really looking forward to playing it without getting frustrated, I play counter-strike online and it's unplayable, a click takes around 1-1.5 seconds before the gunshot goes off, by then I'd be dead...

on a good day, it would hit the 250-290 kB/s mark... I'm really a big fan of the past Freelancer game... really would like to try this... :)

What kind of connection? I have just 2mbps DSL and can play online games just fine (Team Fortress 2, Planetside 2). Elite I play solo and again, without any problems.

Like i said, solo you won't have any problems. I wouldn't worry too much about online play right now, it's a bit underdeveloped atm.

Thanks for the replies... ok... when you mean solo... is that single player offline (or online... I read that they didn't offer offline...).

I couldn't play well in team fortress with my connection based on experience... my ping goes up to 300-500 or higher at times... takes around a few seconds before I could shoot... it was hard to get a good kill... :(

Yeah, single player online. Can be played over mobile network so you shouldn't have any problems.

I'd have thought that ping and server load were more important than bandwidth.

Actually no because the connection mode ED went with is p2p. That means if you play with 10 other people in system you have to send your movements to 10 different people, and they all have to send theirs to you. It can get pretty intensive because of this.
