Can I run Odyssey ?

Hey guys, I'm looking forward to trying Odyssey, and I figured since i'll buy it anyway, why not precommand it. The only thing that's stopping me is I'm unsure weither or not I will be able to run Odyssey.

FD mentionned they wouldn't change their engine for Odyssey, so I'm guessing that's a great sign, however, I can only run Elite at an average of 40fps, 25fps when in a starport, 30fps on a planet.

I didn't want to open a customer support ticket (mainly cause i don't know how), so I'm asking here.

Here's my config:

Intel Core i5 7200U (Standard 2.7Ghz, OClocked at around 3Ghz)
2x4 Ghz Ram DDR4
NVIDIA GeForce 930Mx

As for connectivity I have no problems whatsoever at 500mb/s at worst.

Btw yes you guys are right this is in fact a laptop.

Your GPU is the bottleneck.
Considering the increased Terrain complexity, performance may worsen.

Because of the GPU shortage issue, i'd either recommend buying a new system (as scalpers and miners usually don't buy whole systems just to flip the GPU) with a more beefier GPU (gtx 1060 6gb, gtx 1660, rtx 2060, 3060 or better (or an AMD equivalent))
or waiting until GPUs become more readily available and using a cloud gaming service such as GeForce Now

Sounds like a laptop. And right now, everyone is simply guessing.
If it is a laptop, I can't guess whether the bottleneck would be CPU or GPU - or cooling, or anything else. If you want to know, you'll need to run a monitiring utility (like hwinfo) - but since, if it is a laptop, you can't swap out anything, that would be just idle curiosity.

In any case: you definitely won't get a better performance - but that's all I can promise you. My guess is that you would be able to run it, perhaps only at the lowest resolution/graphics settings, and also perhaps only at a low framerate. Unless you want to participate in the Alpha test (or are keen on the soundtrack), I'd wait until the game is out (and then maybe another couple of weeks, as unfortunately FD's track record for release day performance isn't exactly stellar) and you can get a few real world impressions from other players.

Of course you can run, that is the whole idea of Odyssey and space legs!

Your puta may be another problem however. The specs are low, but they haven't realeased the min specs for Odyssey yet (as far as I am aware). Guess the correct answer at this point is "Wait and See".

You need 60fps for ED to run smoothly at the minimum. If your graphic settings are too high per your hardware lower them until you get this. That said I have an eight year old computer running Windows 7 pro then later I upgraded my dual graphics cards with a Nvida GeForce GTX 1660t Tii letting me run in Ultra mode without any overclocking or heat issues. Then again that computer that I built in 2013 cost me $7000.00 with the best technology at the time running a business with photography and audio/video production where I was paid me very well often by Hollywood. But technology moves on.

As for Odyssey you will know in 14 days. Today I could purchase a gaming computer at half or less the price that I paid in 2013 and probably be 8 times better. If that day comes when my PC won't provide 60fps then being an Elite gaming nerd since 1985 with a Commodore 64 I'll build another one.

Regards

Can you run it?

As it stands the minimum requirements haven't changed, so if you can run Horizons then you'll most likely be able to run Odyssey.

Will you enjoy the experience.

Probably not.

Good luck finding parts, I've been on the EVGA waiting list for months and haven't heard a peep. I've also given up hope for a new TWCS throttle that I've been on a wait list for over a month.

Heey not too good news. I run it at 720p 30 fps mostly but it does tip below sometimes. Alpha is so utterly unoptimized though that people with 3080s cant even run it properly so it can change drastically till release. It needs to infact. If it doesn't try looking into geforce now, 10 euros a month and it streams the game to your pc so if you have a good connection you can play, sadly it does not work with alpha but it will with a full release. Best of luck o7

As other have stated, that GPU will most likely be a problem, and GPU shortage is really annoying right now, myself I've been trying to get my hands on a RTX 3060Ti
since it came out, to replace my RX 580 but everyone is sold out.

TLDR: Buy a new machine with updated hardware, I kinda think you may run into trouble if you try to put a new GPU into your current laptop.
