Can I upgrade my Preordered Odyssey to Alpha?

The other week I preordered Oddyssey and I have ben licking my lips ready to try it out on the 29th. However watching the Twitch show tonight I realised that I bought the wrong one and that my version won't be available for probably another three months! Is there any way to upgrade to the Deluxe Alpha version? Having already spent £30 I don't fancy having to cough up another £40

And what's with the preorder not granting early access? Isnt preorder money good enough for that? The dumb preorder bonus item already enough compensation for the interest free loan? Bloody misers.
Has to be "Deluxe" alpha, right?

Hey if this wasnt actually tried before I'd say this is an April fools joke, because it's beyond dumb a propisition.
It is so dumb only the hardcore are gonna take it and defend their decision with hardcore sunk cost fallaciousness.

It's normally that when you work or offer service you get paid and not the other way round.
Not sure why I have to explain that to you.
Not all the time. People do it because they want to. Nobody forces anyone to buy the alpha. So that's a choice people make. Still not sure what's funny about it.

Also they are doing a service for themselves and other players, as they want the game to be as bug free as possible.

Okay.

Are they charging for the test version again? Don't tell me they make you pay for the test version again. Paying tester, lol.
This is going to drive you crazy, but I'm playing Baldur's Gate 3 EA and having fun playing Valheim EA with friends, though I hate crafting. I also bought the Odyssey alpha early access, but I doubt I'll even join early access and only watch on youtube, but I bought it. Just in case...

Completely different from a 3-month virtual cashgrab that just exists to skimp on QA for the release. EA games are characterised by ongoing development, but I think the core thing is maybe that Odyssey is just another unfinished product tossed at gullible players just like Horizon was.

How is it a cash grab, when it's purely optional. And no, it doesn't replace on their QA.

As to it being unfinished, that depends on what you mean by unfinished.

Let's face it, it gives FD a chance to run it on a huge variety of system configurations, so they don't find a "day 1" problem with something the QC guys just couldn't find on their systems. And that benefits a lot of us! Besides, let's admit it.........we'll find bugs they never would because "Commanders have CRAZY EYES" and do things most people would never even think of trying until some sacrificial lamb gives it a try and finds out it doesn't work right!
Regards

I think there’s a bit of conflicting interests there. The cms seem to earnestly acknowledge that free general testing will be needed and valuable.. but someone in marketing demanded their paywall as well, so inherently limits the value they can get. Especially with a normal sense of entitlement that comes from paying a premium in addition to preordering.

They’ll have to sort out amongst themselves what it will be not our job or choice.

Because it discourages players who only want to get in the alpha to see the new stuff right away but never intend to make any bug reports or feedback. Having a paywall actually increases the value of the Alpha and Beta release because ning nongs don't get in and mess with things just for the luls!

Well that’s one way of looking at it sure.
Personally I won’t be putting in effort this time, not because of costs but because I’ve done multiple betas now where frontier simply don’t act on the great majority of bug reports or feedback.

A well thought out and documented bug report and feedback post can take up to 40 mins to do.. I’m not doing that again just to have it ignored.

Maybe a few one liners or support for others sure. And of course will gear up for some fun forum battles with the other side definitely. But serious work for frontier. Why? We don’t know for certain if they even read it.
