Engineers can i use a different ship to collect mats, and then transfer them to my chosen ship to upgrade it?

I want to upgrade my corvette. can I collect all the mats I need in my asp, and then transfer them to my corvette so the engineer can upgrade it?
Cracked industrial firmware seems imposable to find.
i assume upgraded systems cannot be transferred between my ships? in other words i will need to take my corvette to the engineer in order to upgrade the fsd etc.

Materials (as in non-commodities, which take up actual cargo space) are always with you regardless of which ship you're using. If you have commodities, cargo that takes up 1 ton or more of space, you need to have enough space in the ship you're transferring to for the transfer to work. You'll get a warning in the shipyard screen if you have insufficient cargo space in the ship you're transferring to.

Otherwise, you should be able to upgrade your corvette provided you have the right components. I admittedly haven't tried transferring an upgraded system to another ship yet.

Materials and data certainly are account-bound not ship-bound. As for any items, those you need to bring with the ship you're about to upgrade I think.

Tested selling my Asp's medium pulse laser with Scramble Spectrum on it, then using the 'Buy back sold items' tab, and I was able to buy back the laser - with the special ability + mods still on it - on my Imperial Courier. Thankfully! If this had been disabled for some reason, that would make things a lot more difficult. :)

Related question.....say if you upgrade a ship with a class 4 FSD will the upgrade apply to all of your ships? In other words will it transfer over to for example a class 6 FSD that you have on another ship?

I'm not 100% certain but I think it only upgrades that very specific module.

Correct, an upgrade only applies to that specific module that you choose to upgrade at the time. Nothing else is affected.

So, in other words, take your A grade Anaconda and upgrade it's modules. Then swap them out to your Corvette and repeat again for your Anaconda. Seems a bit long winded.

why swap them to your corvette? jus take your corvette and upgrade that separately, don't have to do it in your anaconda.
