Can I use Quest 2 on a non-Steam Elite Horizons?

Hi all,

as per title: I have a non-Steam version of Elite Dangerous - Horizons. And will receive a Quest 2 in a couple of days.

Is it possible to experience/use this VR on a non-Steam version, and if it is, what am I to do? Do I have to download some "VR version" or what?

Thank you!

If you have the stand-alone launcher version then you need to do the following:

  • Download & install Oculus desktop software
  • Enable “external sources” in the software
  • Connect your Quest 2 with either a USB-C cable or wireless AirLink
  • Start Elite, go into Graphics options and enable “HMD headphones”
When it comes to settings it’ll depend on your PC, but there will be advice able here if you need it 👍

Thank you so very much for this precise and true advice.
It worked 100%.

Haven't played in a few years...but I was wondering the same thing as the OP.

And once you do as Arioch said, your Oculus software will learn to use Elite so you don't have to do it step-by-step again - you simply click on Elite icon on the desktop and that will activate all it needs.

And if I haven't said it enough already, ED is STUNNING in VR :)
