So do you people think you can give me a rough idea of what this game is going to be based on me having played X3 Terran Conflict/Albion Prelude since i know X was largely inspired by Elite, and i love X3 it's amazing! but what do X and Elite have in common and where do you think they will differ (apart from the obvious multiplayer)
Hi!
I've played all the X Universe games and own multiple copies of all except Albion Prelude, edit.. (only one copy), which although I've got installed on my computer I've only played it for perhaps about thirty to forty hours at a rough guess, (I still play X3TC when I'm in the mood and time permits!
I also played Frontier Elite 2 (I've still got the boxed Amiga Version) and Frontier First Encounters?...sadly the boxed version of that has mysteriously vanished from my collection, I probably lent it to somebody :S...and never got it back obviously
From a personal opinion the main feature that differentiates the Frontier Games from the X series for me is the background Universe in which the games are played, (With perhaps the exception of the first Elite Game?...I'm a bit embarrassed about that btw., as I've never played it ).
A 'Real' Universe, or as near as one can get, has been featured in the last two Frontier games, and although the X series has featured planets, moons and asteroids (as you probably know) you can't actually land on them, or interact with them (edit.. apart from asteroids), and also the X Universe 'dynamics' and design isn't based on a real universe as we know of today.
So, while all the games I've mentioned have been enjoyable (to me) in their own rite, personally I have sadly missed the experience of the Frontier Elite style of universe dynamics in the X Games.
Most of the differences between The X Games and the Frontier games series have been pointed out quite eloquently by the other posters in this topic, but again for me personally the universe 'backdrop' in the future Elite Dangerous will feature (hopefully at some point
I've bought/backed both Elite Dangerous & Star Citizen, and I intend to also buy X Rebirth (probably the English boxed collectors edition), I'm pretty sure I will enjoy all these new games eventually, but the feature of a 'real' universe in Elite Dangerous is what will be the main difference between X Rebirth and 'Elite'.
There again, at the moment X Rebirth isn't going to have 'landable' planets in the true sense at release, but maybe this might change in the future?...who knows!
Jack.
