Can Missions be buggy?

I've not really done too many missions so not that experienced.

I picked one up tonight though, and now i'm totally lost and i wonder - can missions can get into invalid states?

The following steps happened and now i'm a bit stuck.
  1. Took assassination mission
  2. Had to surface land and scan a comms tower during which i got a little... wanted.
  3. Got the mission information updated in transactions panel
  4. Popped into a station to clear my legal status (interstellar factions legal contact)
  5. Came out and caught sight of target
  6. Flew off to mission marker system in the galaxy map
  7. No sign of matie. but I do notice that galaxy map target (orange globe) and mission description in transactions panel don't match.
Not really sure what to do now. Anyone else have weird stuff like this?

Sounds like you need to read up on how to spot mission targets 🤷‍♀️

Edit: But yes, they can be bugged - that one ^^^ sounds ok though

not done any since the update. sounds about right.
i have done many in the past, from the point you enter targets system.
scan the system, fss, locate points of interest. mission should show up when you have scanned said target.
your target actually may come for you while you are doing this. it has happened many times with me.
go to targets location, or if you see it. interdict :) drop in target location and nail it. ;)

I wish I could rename the title of this thread to "If you (1) don't use or (2) don't know how to use your FSS, now is the time to learn"...

@Factabulous was right - I needed to learn how to spot mission targets but the way I had always been doing it was flying around waiting for something to spawn.

@Kingston@# really helped me out with his mention of FSS. After that I watched some Youtube, fired it up, and had completed my mission within 15 mins.

What I didn't realise was that FSS comes as default on every ship. I'd heard lots about it but thought it was something i'd have to save up for, learn how to use, and most importantly that it's not just for exploration!

I hope this thread helps someone else out too one day :)
