Can Painite be bought anywhere? Where to Mine it?

Can Painite be bought anywhere as a market commodity? (I haven't seen it yet).

Which asteroids/rings are best for finding this rare stone? (I'm getting very low yields even in pristine metallic fields, any hot tips on other ring types?

This is bugging me as well, as there are missions to supply the stuff, as well as platinum. Both of which can't be found anywhere?

the big boulder like graphic is indicating a mining mission

neither can be brought on the commodities market

or as said already.... steal/pirate them

Yea I think they're suppose to be mining missions, pirating miners will make the cargo illegal I believe, haven't done much mining mission to be honest.

Metallic rings is where you can find Painite, Osmium and Platinum. Quantity will vary from the quality of the rings, but the "drop table" is the same.

For painite you have to go to pristine metallic rings to mine it. It's a lot of trouble to find one but worth the effort if you like mining.

Cool, just querying others' experience.

I have been mining both platinum and painite, so far in pristine metallic rings. The platinum isn't hard to find, but painite seems about a 1 in 30 asteroid find, and even then you may not get between 0.5 to 2 tons.

Its easier to mine everything you see, ignore the gallite/bertrandite/indite as low-value ventable waste and just keep the metals and painite when you find it. Even silver is low-value.

The mining missions add serious value but re-spawn pretty slowly - I'm still selling material I mined on Friday night! It has netted about 6mil, but thats 2hrs of mining plus about 2 hrs of checking the bulletin board every hour or so, so not great cr/hr.

Mining is the way to get them. Or pirating miners.

You might also try asking nicely.

There have been several times I've vented tons of platinum and painite to others - mostly because I'm also hauling it around trying to turn it in for missions and, once you've got 23t of the stuff there's no need hoarding it all. ...

Consider joining The Navigator Guild, we currently have mining fleets that go out on thursdays for a vacation in the pristine metallic rings of nearby systems, out of a 100 tonne haul we get between 20 and 30 painite. Mining as a team we get to take advantage of each others rich finds because asteroids are depleted on a per player basis.

This is certainly one way to upgrade the painite output!

Single-miner though, its about 1 in 30 asteroids contains painite, and about 1:50 with painite as the major commodity.

Find 3 or 4 high tech systems within reasonable range of your mining site. Mine, jump to one, sell your stuff, jump next, sell, etc. I usually do two passes through, then collect more missions on the next one and head back out to mine more. It's a very relaxing way to pass your time while waiting for a fuel emergency rescue call. (And jumping on a fuel rescue with a hold full of platinum and painite means that if you rescue a new player in a sidey you can vent them some tea and painite to help them buy a fuel scoop)

Nice, charity begins with pain(ite).

The missions do seem to raise your trading ranking a fair bit faster than simple trading as well, even in an Anaconda at 1.2mil per round trip. My mining missions have double or even triple effect on my progress as far as the trading rank is concerned (I'm an Entrepreneur at the moment).

It seems to me that trading rank is based on profit -- and since mining is the ultimate "buy low, sell high" it's all pure profit. When you sell your hold of metals for 5m/cr, it's all applied to your bottom line. :)
