Ships Can somebody help me ?

I was flying my new engineered chieftain with only a little more than one rebuy.
I died.
Passed through the rebuy screen to rebuy my ship.
Now I am back in the ship, all my engineered core internals are ok but lost all engineered utility slots, weapons and optionals ...
What happenned ?
Can I do something to recover ?
Or should I quit the game ?

You clicked on an option in the rebuy screen that had already pre-selected 'rebuy all'. By doing that, you chose not to rebuy all of your existing modules - and all non-core modules were not part of the rebuy you selected. Others before you have also made this mistake. Next time you face a rebuy, look very closely... it is set by default to rebuy everything - do not click on anything but the confirmation button.

Edit: You've unlocked engineers, know how to collect mats, so regaining what you lost won't take too long.

Well you can try, afaik the support is quite willing to help where they can -- just not sure it's technically possible here.

How highly were those modules engineered? I know the situation will feel incredibly frustrating but it's not worth quitting the game over. ^^ I've wasted a lot of mats on mods that turned out to be useless, wouldn't quit over that either. :)

if it was just money it wouldn't be so overwhelming, but the loss of all my engineered stuff is catastrophic. Nearly everything was fully engineered to grade 5 except my 2 plasma accelerators (unlocked yet). Grade 5 shield (thermal resistant) ; 3 grade 5 efficient small beams, 1 grade 3 multicanon, 4 grade 5 shield boosters (resistance enhanced), 5 grade 5 hull reinforcement packs.

It's a disaster.
Last time I had to deal with a rebuy screen was at least 3 years ago. This rebuy screen ui is unclear and should be totally rethinked in my opinion.

Submitted a ticket to tech support, now wait and see...

Stupid canopy breach, My life support was only d-rated. I was bounty hunting in a haz res and was trying to finish an elite python. I was at 18% hull remaining and some of my module reinforcements (I dont remember exactly how many) were disabled (I always fly with 3 mod packs). I Know I should have fled at this point. But I felt so safe in my chieftain that I wanted this last kill. The canopy was blown away, and I tried to escape. Just after engaging the fsd, I collided with the planetary ring I was trying to leave and was pulled back from super-cruise. Precious time lost rebooting the fsd. I was still able to reach the station and died from lack of oxygen just in front of the letter box....

Just quit

Well, it sounds like you made a series of errors - during combat, during retreat, and during the rebuy process. So really, as much as you want to blame the UI, it's really on you. Engineering isn't hard, and you could probably get everything back to G3 at a minimum in a couple of hours. Besides, what else areyou going to do, given that you don't have enough credits for another rebuy.

It's true to say that I made some mistakes during that fight, no problem. Doing mistakes and having to rebuy is part of the process of learning to fly a new ship.
I think the ui is bad, though. It's counter intuitive and missleading. When you are enfuriated after facing that screen it's easy to mess it up. And the fact that you said I am not the first one having this problem (which is true after some quick internet searches) tells a lot.

Guess I am forced to farm some money back with my old vulture (just 1 rebuy left with 1,5 mil). Looks like combat is the most lucrative activity as it is now. Do you have a less risky solution for 1,5 mil ?

Nah, half a dozen posts in a few years speaks more to individual mistakes than a massive UI issue given the 500,000/month player numbers.

There are loads of ways to make credits - elite delivery runs, mining, mapping ELWs.

If you only do combat, and only have combat ships, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Diversify, find other ways to make money you don't hate, and you can pad your credit balance easier to cater to your combat playstyle.

I have some ideas to help you along, but I'd need an asset list to get started.

Knowledge for future, you can synthesize more oxygen for your emergency life support. Takes the pressure off trying to return to a base. Especially if the base makes you wait with the dreaded "Docking Request Denied". This can be done while actively using emergency life support.

And yes I agree the rebuy screen is confusing. So is the screen when sent to space prison. I gotta read them 5 times to absolutely be certain I'm not pressing the wrong option, and I'm still nervous that I'm gonna screw up. I haven't screwed up.... because I read them 5 times.
