Can someone explain Bartering? (Bartender in the Concourse)

There’s two classes of foot materials, and only one of those can be bartered for.

I haven’t look, at this since alpha, but I believe you get a certain barter value for your stuff, and once you have enough “barter points,” you can then take what you want. (The cost is higher than trade in value.) Any excess points are lost, I believe. You need to have more points than the cost of an item, so you have to start out by choosing what to trade in.

You click the item they have that you want, and then you start “donating” the stuff you don’t want, and it will add up to 1+ of the item that you clicked on. It lists next to each item how many you’d have to trade to get 1 of the item you clicked.

edit: I described it wrong, I’m looking at it now. Each item has a barter score. If you want an item with a score of 20, and you have 5 items with scores of 5 each, you need to trade in 4 to get 1 of the item you wanted. If you trade in all 5 you actually just lose an item with no gain. You can trade a couple of high value items then pop on a few 2s until it rolls over to the next number (“You could acquire: 1 unit(s)” ) to maximize your trades.
It sounds complex, but it’s so much better than the mat traders, IMO.

Can someone please explain the "You could acquire" figure to me that is shown on each of the mane "chemicals", "Circuits" and "tech" pages....

The figure does not look right to me or I am reading it entirely incorrectly, for example:

  1. I click on "Tech"
  2. I highlight "Carbon fibre plating"
  3. It states on the right hand side: "You could acquire 199 units by selling all your Tech".
  4. I click inside "Carbon fibre plating" and add all items in my inventory
  5. It says "You're receiving +20 Unit(s)"
So my question is What happened to the other promised 179 units or what am I missing here?

You're not trading all your Tech items, you're just trading your Carbon Fibre Plating items; that's why you don't get the full 199 units.

Thanks buddy but eh?

I took this as the amount of the highlighted item I could get by trading all other items - is that not right? I think is is because the "you could acquire" figure changes when I highlight another individual tech item.

If not, then what's the purpose of the "you could acquire" figure?

Can you please explain your maths of how the 199 units is constituted?

Cheers

Sorry, I misread your post. My bad.

Could the 199 "units" be the total amount of 'currency'/value you receive by selling all your Tech items? (As opposed to the total amount of Carbon Fibre Plating you could receive)? If that's it, it's very confusing considering they use "Units" for both.

I write UX and help/documentation for a living (20+ years) and I am really struggling with what this could even mean.

I wonder if there is a calculation issue here somewhere.

If someone smarter than me can please explain I would really appreciate it.

No worries - I'm honestly stumped on this one and have tried my hardest to work out what it could mean.

Yeah, I'm not getting this either.

In the Chemical bartering section it tells me, for example, that I could get 5 units of Graphene if I traded all of my Chemicals - but when I select the Graphene option it tells me that I have no Chemicals to trade... ? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I’m going no where near this until someone has made a tutorial. the answers didn’t reveal themselves for me in alpha.
At this stage there is zero guarantee any of this is even operating correctly.

Flimley

I tried it last night and was similarly confused. EDO is a benchmark case study in UX anti-patterns.
Slow hand clap to the management behind it, well done!

Looks like 199 Barter units, but since Carbon Fibre costs 11 units each, it’s 199/11=18 ?? Uhm. Did you do a mission between screenshots? Your units went up from 199 to 221. Bug?
Edit: I do think the way it says 199 units could be a bug, it’s at least confusing and they should shuffle it around. First list total Barter value for all items, then list Carbon Fibre cost since it’s highlighted, then say you could acquire 18 (or 20) units by trading all your items.
