Can someone explain the purpose of the FDL to me?

Well, if that's the question than it's dogfighting smaller ships in a kitted out Cobra with multi-cannons blazing...or at least that's the most fun I've had.
Yep, against NPCs, small ships are the funniest / most challenging. Bigger ships (from Vulture) are overpowered: drop at CZ, find a Conda, kill it, next Conda, kill it, next Pythons/Asp...oh, nothing left already, leave...boring...

I've been working really hard in my Vulture to save up 90M to afford an A-rated FDL right off the bat, only to be extremely dissappointed by its combat performance. So bad pitch that Eagles/Vipers/Vultures are almost constantly at my six unless I use FA off or fly backwards (backward is way more effective than FA off). Yeah I also found one deadly conda out-turning my FDL once in an USS. The placement of C4 hardpoint is beyond any reason and it may land one shot or two in a conda fight before the lasers finish the job. I feel its hardpoint position is probably the worst of all ships. Even Clipper and Cobra are more user-friendly. And the handling...my Clipper with all D modules is more comfortable to fly in. After multiple times of losing my 850MJ shield I decided to take 5M cut and send it to the recycle department. With the fund I maxed out my Clipper and couldn't be happier.

Yeah I still miss my early days when I eat and sleep in my Cobra at Kremainn RES. It wasn't easy fighting off condas or multiple hostile wings.
