Can someone p[lase clarify the Mass Stats for Thrusters.

I'm a little confused by the stats for Thrusters.

I've been playing around with my ASP looking at what would provide better maneuverability and jump capability. I had C5 thrusters which game me 468.3/1050T Current and 540.2/1050T Max and dropped my max Laden Jump to 18.88ly. I've replaced them with A4 Thrusters which gave me a 458.2/630T Current and 530.2/630T Max with a max laden jump of 19.23ly.

My question is, does this mean that because I have less "overkill" in the "actual vs max capable" mass means I'm now less maneuverable with a lesser class (4 instead of 5) thruster?

Can someone explain how this works?

EDIT: Type with jump range.

Yes, your ship becomes less manoeuvrable and slower.

However, thruster upgrades should not have affected your jump range that way unless you have also changed your FSD.

Ok ... so the excess capacity of the thrusters is directly proportional to maneuverability. Good to know. I'll have to source B5 thrusters in that case. It'll cut down my jump range, but I like to be competitive in a fight if I have to be.

It doesn't DIRECTLY affect jump range. It does indirectly affect jump range. Lighter thrusters = longer jumps.

The mass difference between size 4 and size 5 thrusters is 10t (10t and 20t correspondingly) unless we are talking about Class B thrusts (B4 - 16t, B5 - 32t) or Class D thrusters (4 vs 8t) and 10t should not have affected your jump range by a factor of 10. It was either a bug or FSD downgrade.

Ah. My bad. Typo. It should have been 18.88ly ... not 1.88ly

Then you lose in manoeuvrability, both max and boost velocities but your jump range slightly increases. However, I see no sense in using A4 thrusters on Asp. D5 thrusters provide more power and have a slightly lower mass. Moreover, they are almost 10 times cheaper.

Thanks. That's why I was here asking the question. I was trying to find out if the excess mass capacity of the drive translated into better maneuverability. Now to see if I can find B5 thrusters ... somewhere. No luck so far.

I would avoid anything of Class B as this is the heaviest equipment.

I have 2 Asps (yeah, I know) one kitted for general stuff and one kitted for exploration. The general Asp has D5 thrusters and the exploring Asp has D4 thrusters. However due to the weight difference the exploring Asp handles slightly better, has a comparable top speed, although boost doesn't last as long. Also there is a difference of 6 or 8 LY in jump range (both with a A5 FSD), due to weight. However, the exploring Asp is weaponless, has downgraded shields and can't carry cargo.

The only real reason to drop a class in thrusters is for extreme weight saving.

It's just a stepping stone. I might wait though until I can upgrade my B5 FSD and PP to 5As instead (the 5C PP leaves you absolutely no wiggle-room for equipment).
