Can someone tell me what this means

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I have asked this question twice in the Wings 1.2 patch update thread and gotten no answer.

Make sure that the local polity is updated if a player slow boats between jurisdictions

I don't understand what this means. Does it mean if they fly between stations without using Supercruise (*shudders*) or if they supercruise between stars, or what?

An explanation would be much appreciated.

This doesn't help much. We're still just assuming. Can no one answer this question with any authority?

And what is polity? I've never heard this term. And I'm still not sure how they define 'Slow Boat' in this context.

I'm betting they updated SC between stars. It may be possible now to transit short distances between systems.

This is what it has to mean. If you SC between stars then you will never arrive - even if you travel the correct distance, because the other systems instance will never load. Sol to Proxima, you'll still appear as in Sol system, just 4.5ly out from the star! "slow-boating" is possible within a system, not supercruising to get to another planet. If you stared from a minor faction space and then fly off in normal space, what this means is that you will eventually be outside that minor factions sphere of control and in the jurisdiction of the systems controlling faction.

Polity

Basically this looks like a minor GUI fix if you fly a long way in normal space.

That would be nice, but that means that during the hyperspace jump, all of the systems within SC fuel range once you have arrived have to be rendered and prepared or placed in the same instance. That sounds like it might take 30 to 45 seconds (or more) in hyperspace to do that.

And what is polity?

Polity means body politic - an area that belongs to a particular political affiliation and governance. It is a term very often used in political science.

It seems to me what they mean here is if you takes a long amount of time to arrive at a destination and if the destination has changed it's political affliation (ie. from Alliance to Empire or such), it will get updated correctly.

Every space station controls a region of space around it (so, for example, in an Empire system, you'll have a sphere of Independent space if a space station is Independently owned). So if you jump into a USS close to that station, then the independent faction's laws apply, not the Empire laws that control the majority of the system.

This means if you fly past that boundary in normal space, you'll see the ownership of the space change correctly. It would be very unlikely to encounter; you'd have to be fairly close to the boundary between territories.
