Can´t get into my ship - too much freight loaded

Fellow cmdrs,
coming back to Elite after a break of maybe 15 month, I transferred all my ships to a station. My rusty old friend AspX has also been transferred, waiting in the shipyard for some further exploration trips. Yesterday I wanted to board the AspX - but it was not possible. I get this notification everytime I want to hop in [translated from German into English]:
"Transaction denied
You have loaded too much freight/cargo, to move this ship. This ship is just allowed to carry 4.0 T, you have loaded 7.0 T."

Why? How?
Is there a chance to get rid of the cargo (without being able to activate the ship) or do I have to sell my trusty old friend?

Thanks for your help,
Dun

Not sure, how many animals do you currently have on your Ark?

Noah transported a lot of animals, so it should be possible.

This sounds like your current ship has seven tonnes of cargo aboard, but the Asp can only carry four tonnes, and the game doesn't know which three tonnes you don't want to keep.

If you sell the cargo (or limpets?) you're currently carrying, you should be able to switch to the Asp.

So the cargo in my current ship is too big for the Asp. This could be the point! Stupid me!
I am going to check it when I am at home.
Thanks for your help, cmdrs!

UPDATE
Problem solved. Toomuch cargo in my current ship to board the new ship.
Thx@all!
