Can the last person out please turn off the lights

I think its a great game, all the mechanics are there now... It is now just adding the bits in between and this will go down as a legendary piece of art.

**SPOILER ALERT**
Season three will launch with... wait for it... HAIR! Yes, hair for the characters YOU created in Season 2! And later in the release you'll get... CLOTHES! Yes, clothes. Dress your character up in style to match your game play! And visit the Frontier store for clothing skins with exciting plaids and patterns! THEN later in the year - EDIT: sorry, in the following fiscal year - expect mods for your buggy including tea-power cells to craft your own unlimited supply of energy from all those canisters of tea!

Yeah, it will likely be this exciting. :)

BREAKING NEWS!!!! New game changing content just announced for lucky Season 2 owners: TRACKS!

Yes, hard to believe but coming soon will be the ability to see your own tracks left in the imaginary dirt surfaces on these lifeless planets. Feeling lost? Can't remember where that last POI scan started to sound different? Tired of not knowing where you have been? Imagine the possibilities and enhanced game play by having tracks appear as you drive your buggy. One of the most anticipated releases for 2016.

But seriously, by the sounds of some of the reactions to this week's newsletter you'd think this was really the case. Tracks... Really? In any other PC or console game this simple little visual element would go unnoticed. In Elite it's a major feature which says something about just how much is missing from the game.

Yeah, everyone's saying it's a major feature. Sure...

Okay, you're right. Only minor things get the attention like its getting in this thread  :

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=238777&page=5

(Discussed for 5 pages so far lol!)

As sad as it is, tracks are getting waaaaay too much attention for such a minor game element.

Edit: and 13+ pages of discussing tracks here lol!:

And another thread:

Unbelievable... Really. What's next? Clouds?

You must be a ton of fun at parties.

You must be a ton of fun at parties.

Actually, yes. But just having fun poking at the facts here.

Have to admit the things that are raved about in this forum can be quite surprising such as tracks and ability to make an avatar with no hair, and this simply reflects upon the state of Elite today. It's totally fine for other folks to be happy with the way it is and with these trivial additions like tracks. Many folks like things like "Flappy Birds" so I totally get some are easily satisfied with really simple things. But one has to really step back and look at what's going on with Elite and ask is this really added-value for spending $60 on this title\expansion? I expected more, a lot more. And so have others. Hence the humor trying to make light of this bad situation.

If you think theres no need for humor here and believe things like adding tracks are really a big deal then I'm not sure what to say.

What on earth is happening to this game, I'm now the last person I know still playing the game. Bored in solo, sick of PVP in open, to much broken stuff, nothing that interests me in the future. All things I have heard from friends in the last 6 months or so. Can 2.1 and the surprise at the end of the season be enough to keep me going through to season 3 is what i'm asking myself. I'm having some time off ED at the moment after the delay of 2.1 and playing other games. Keep popping back on the forum to see whats happening and get streams of posts from people basically clearing off because they have had enough. How many people are like me and giving season 2 the ED do or die option ?

Considering Mobius is still gaining members I think that there are still plenty of people playing and joining. Your reasons for taking a break are good ones but it is nowhere near the "last person switch off the lights" position.

No-one said adding tracks is a REALLY BIG DEAL.

Tracks are simply something people were asking for THAT'S IT.

Frontier have added it and so of course some people are pleased about that.

Everything added does not have to be some earth shattering huge feature, small quality of life features are just as welcome.

"Flappy birds"?? Really???

Getting totally sick of some of the folk who frequent this forum, it seems everything has to be complained about and <excreted> on, it's some SRV tracks, that's it.

@ All people flying through half-empty or empty space:

Check:

[x] I have not combat logged in the last days
[x] I have not killed newbies in the last days
[x] My connection is good and I'm not watching movies whilst playing
[x] My AV is not paranoid and/or made by Symantec

If you can check all 4 boxes, you're propably somewhere outside the many GC, ranking-up, PvP, Newbie, Nice-View, Whatever-Hot-Spots.

Anyone ever thought about the performance trouble on Sat/Sun? This is not because of too few people playing.

Patience, CMDRs. 2.1 will come one day...

Did you read the rest of the newsletter? The tracks we're a one line mention at the end.

I am on an extended break at the moment. I got tired of all of the nonsensical encounters, the hours spent trying to find a trade route, the utter stupidity of the mission boards. Its like playing a gigantic demo and I simply don't have the time to try and find interactions. Freelancer is for me the last game to have recaptured that Elite feeling (ironic really). Maybe in a year or two it'll be fixed and I'll come back to it, but right now its game paused (not game over, yet).

Season 2 definitely isn't do or die to me.
Its just the beginning of showing that Frontier are going to be expanding this game long term.

What I'm waiting for is:
a) The ability to create avatars and the game changing for 'text on the screen' to 'looking at faces'
b) The ability to get up out of the seat and walk around the ship
c) The ability to get out of the ship and walk around in stations/outposts

These things IMO will add immeasurable life to the game and make Elite: Dangerous 3.0 (or whatever number) feel like a sequel rather than being another addition.

I found a trade route in 4 minutes by doing a Google search and looking up trade prices for Palladium. Cubeo-Hernovacle-Ehlanda Sell the palladium from Hernovacle (Ross Station) at Adelman in Cubeo (there's usually 8-20 palladium, but it's really cheap and the profits average at 2600 creds per palladium) and then Ehlanda to Cubeo, average profits are 2,400 creds. Gold is the next best one, with profits averaging at 2,100 creds per ton.
It's not hard, so it makes me wonder how you didn't figure it out.
As for the other things, well I can't speak much for them. They don't seem like major problems to me, as I largely ignore them while I grind away. But hey, the grind is probably half the problem.
The grind's not for everyone.

I wholeheartedly agree with your list - but I would also like to see NPC interactions improved. One of my last memories of playing was a good example. I answered a distress call and it was a T9 getting shot up by pirates - no worries, flying a full A spec Conda - chews them up pretty quickly. T9 is damaged and then, wow, a rescue Anaconda shows up! This is great - I am actually really enjoying this....and then! Nothing happens. The two ships just sit there. No towing, no thank you from the T9, nothing.....and that's Elite: Dangerous in a nutshell for me......builds you up and falls flat.

Google in the game? No, didn't think so. In terms of grind, I don't mind the grind at all - my highest rank is in trade - I actually really like the trading aspect but I want to feel immersed in the game (not having to step out of it to Google trade routes) which comes back to my point about meaningful encounters - how about docking at a station and the information you found on Google was portrayed by a station merchant who had "the hottest deal" and "trade of a lifetime". It's too easy to say "the grind isn't for everyone" when actually the issue is the game. Go read The Dark Wheel - that's the game I want to play, not this currently empty hull. Glad you enjoy it though - but my issue isn't about grinding (I am a big player of World of Warships which is very heavy on the grind), it about the lack of experience along with the grind.

Google in the game?
To clarify; I googled after finding the route to confirm whether it was good or not; it's one of the best Palladium routes in Human Space for the distance.
I can't help you feel immersed, the long drudgery of the routes and stuff, the utter lack of new flashy things is immersive to me. Why would the merchant have "the deal of a lifetime" when it's the station that's brokering the deals? It sounds more like adding in a buying/selling aspect to the black market (which, to be fair, would be cool)
If anything, the playerbase hampers the experience and immersiveness for me. But in my region of space (which ironically is damn populated) there's not a lot of PC traffic.

a) Cash-shop tricorne hats and shoulder-mounted parrots for an authentic look.
b) Waiting to sit down and strap in before I can launch.
c) Will the bathroom door be locked for my safety?

This all seems rather familiar.
