Can Turrets = Torpedo Defense?

There have been some threads posted that have stated Reverberating Cascade Torpedoes are now overpowered and are the new "Meta". In response, there have been several suggestions as to how to effectively counter torpedoes.

I've been using some C1 Frag turrets on my FGS recently and it got me thinking if Frag turrets could become a makeshift Torpedo point-defense system.

Turret C1 Frag Cannon + Rapid Fire + Screening Shell + Fire at Will = Anti-torpedo?

Does anybody know if setting a turret to Fire at Will would have it automatically target and shoot down a torpedo if it came in range?

I don't have the capability to test my theory (read: I'm a space loner), but would be grateful if anybody had any insight.

Frag turrets are total crap in general, and I've never found screening shell to be very useful.

Turrets can and will fire at torpedoes if you set them to target only and target the torpedo. I do frequently run turrets on my larger vessels, but I haven't seen "fire at will" correctly prioritize torpedoes...some more testing is in order here.

Interesting idea.
I guess the key is whether the 'fire at will' would focus on torps, or if it always prioritizes on ships.
I'm curious as well.

aaaaaannnd... ninja'd! :p

I've found the turreted Frags in the C1 hardpoints on my FGS to be very effective actually. Have the Drag effect on them, they only fire when in range and they seem to be on target almost every time. They track very well and unload the entire magazine on each pass. They don't do significant damage of course, but sometimes it's enough to finish off some opponents when I can't get my nose up for the other hardpoints to get on target and they offer enough utility to be worth while for my purposes.

Please report back on your testing! Hoping it turns out to be a practical application and not thrown into the "Good in theory, terrible in practice" bin.
