Can we discuss this for a bit? That's getting ridiculous

Well, I suppose if you actually really designed a huge ship like the Anaconda you'd put things like a power plant safe inside the ship behind huge bulkheads to protect it.

Of course, why would anyone do that? Drives I can understand, canopy too, but everything else? Doesn't make sense and it isn't fun anyway.

I love this game and all but this is not even an epic fail... this is a catastrophic fail on FDEVs side. We are all good on being able to target subsystems etc but this farce should be fixed ASAP. It defies logic and breaks immersion. We don't even have damage modeling at least give us some proper hitboxes on subsystems.

Because subsystems and subsystems targeting is at the edge of an unfinished mechanic in the game. For me, someone who has very little if any complaints about Elite so far, it's a glaring issue. I like subsystem targeting but should it tie into Hull Reinforcements which have a questionable function? It's tied to repair costs and depth of ship customization. It affects the flow and depth of ship combat and it's been discussed since Beta.

This is a major function of PvP which affects Power Play and possibly people's interest in participating in PPlay which also has surfaced as a topic of debate since its release. I'm not really interested in pledging a power and playing bubble pop wars until an essential feature is completed properly. I am also okay with giving development the time it needs to succeed also.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxydm-dWS-o&feature=youtu.be (repost of Xaduha's link) is just silly. I didn't know it was THIS BAD! I kinda hate that anacondas are only really scary in a Cobra or lower. They can be in bigger ships but because of sub systems and them being attacked by police too, they aren't that bad. What's the point of targeting sub systems when everyone ONLY goes for the power plant? I tried going for Drives once but didn't eally help me. Few times went for shield generator sub system but that took twice as long as the power plant, and only stunts the shields so they can be killed faster.

On big ships you almost have to target their sub systems. On smaller ships it's a waste of time because they're so weak (and apparently impossible to hit the proper sub system according to the video).

Each time I go into Elite, it's to Trade and get merits for Powerplay, because until this game is worked on more I don't want to do more things. Repairs and such, combat, mining... thereis so much work needed.

Agreed. I really can't be convinced that they're done working on this aspect of combat. It has the potential to create some really diverse battles between taking out hardpoints and drives, but right now there's no point since targeting the power plant takes out ships about 50% faster than randomly hitting the hull.

I'd especially like it if we could target all the hardpoints at once and have weapons auto-focus on the closest functional one at all times. That plus less mandatory power plant beating could make it a lot more fun to try to disable a much more powerful ship.

id like to see subsystems only become targetable after the ship is down to 50% of base hp, plates are now more useful. could even tie it to the type of bulkhead you have on your ship, military grade needing to reduced to 30% base hp

Yeah it needs a bit of TLC as everyone just targets Powerplants - negating the whole subsystem "feature". It also negates Hull Reinforcements (as we all know).

Of course one could argue that it's the same for everyone. So whilst it's not right to be able to damage them that easy, if they ever sort it out it will get really hard to get a kill - for everyone

I've never been comfortable with internal modules being able to be targeted anyway. Weapons, cargo scoop, thrusters - these are all exposed on the surface and are fair game. You shouldn't be able to attack the power plant at all though - the hull's in the way!

Yes this is broken beyond belief, it's been there since at least the beta when I joined up. I'm pretty sure FD know about it too, it's been brought up before. Don't think they'll fix it though, not unless we get a mega rage thread going, which just won't happen.

No, you have it all wrong. you need to expose it, because when your enemy starts equipping themselves with them, you'll need a quick way to shoot them down!
