Can we discuss this for a bit? That's getting ridiculous

Shhhhhhh Please don't let them nerf it. I just bought an FDL with the class 4 PA. 1-3 shotting everything without shields it fun

I all seriousness though this was something I noticed a while back when bounty hunting. I would shoot the front of an anaconda and whatever subsystem I have targeted would take damage.

Wow, I think I finally understand how hull reinforcement packages are supposed to "work".
They simply act like a dummy module to take the hits for something more valuable behind them, because the actual hull is a in' hologram or something.
Starting to wonder if we've overestimated the capability of the COBRA engine, especially since I found out all the "Newtonian physics" are horsecrap too. You can't nudge a drifting ship with your own to set it on a tumble or slow it down, nothing interacts outside of predefined interactions that have to be accounted for case-by-case.
 
I wonder how many here complaining about exposed modules are flying the Anaconda? Personally I like the current setup, if gives us guys in smaller, weaker ships that slim chance to take down one of the larger ships. Without it, a Conda could become too powerful, and what happens then - continuous whinging in the forums, and much gnashing of teeth, pulling out of hair and threatening to tell Mum.
 
Biggest I fly is a python, but I want this fixed for the smaller ships too. I like flying stealth fit cobras which means no shields at all. The way things are right now, as long as an enemy can close enough to target me they can shoot out my PP at any angle whatsoever.

I don't think you're getting the scope of the issue here. Nobody was particularly happy that the hull appeared to be useless for protecting modules (on any ship), but we assumed at least some sense went into the design, and that you couldn't fire a piddly laser beam through 120 metres of solid starship to damage someone's engines. Now that thin veil of hope for some day having shield-less combat that isn't a race to the powerplant headshot is gone altogether. Smoke and mirrors and misplaced priorities. ED in a nutshell.
 
What I would really like is if you target a subsystem you do little or no hull damage. Also damaging the power plant to 0% doesn't cause the ship to blow up, just causes it to have say 15-20% power available which should be enough for powering the FTL and thrusters to get the hell out of there.
 
Must be Tardis-cloak mechanics! In truth, every ship is a Sidewinder with more modules and a different hologram around them!
 
See what I mean? Not enough rage for this clearly broken game mechanic, second page already :p I'm gonna give it one courtesy bump, but the rest is upto you guys

Perhaps if the thread title was a little more descriptive more people would visit it.
