Can we expect more mission types?

anyone know if there are more mission types coming?

Can´t find it in the DDA but wasn´t there multichain missions planned?

I´m thinking about missions like in Tie Fighter, or XW Alliance -- start out with some ships following you, then they get attacked, you need to defend them, pick some cargo up, guard a group of freigters etc., then a captial ship jumps in, launches waves after waves of attacking ships, and you and your wingmen need to get rid of the attackers

Some of them are barebones and could be expanded upon. Especially the one where you get made Baron for delivering 2 Algae. ;)

Of course we need more mission types and complexity... With dialogs, decision that affect the rep etc...
Also seing reward like 24643cr doesn't help to "humanize" the game... 24500cr would.
So overall there is a feeling of a totally computer-generated missions which kills the game a little

so no one wants more mission types then.

Well if you talking about more scripted/random/parameterized missions then my answer would be "no thanks". Id prefer for more interesting and varied missions to occur as a consequence of adding more background simulation and persistence. A good economic and military background simulation with some amount of persistent NPCs could give rise to the sort of situations you describe above with the bonus that variety would be built it and they would contextual i.e. fit in with the local economic and political situation.

I would love to take a combat ship out on an escort mission and be tasked with keeping a freighter safe. I have seen a freighter be accompanied by a couple of sidewinders before and thought that would be a nice alternative to combat ships other than just plain old bounty hunting.

I kinda don't really want those kinds of super-scripted missions that you mentioned as example (let's call 'em x-wing style). The thing with xwing style missions: you can only do them once. Any repetition, and they get extremely predictable; Elite's current, limited missions are simple, yes, but they are also believeable when repeating over and over. Like - it makes sense that stations would tell many people that, say, "we need x resources by Y time, go get them for us". Simple, basic, and can take place 100 times over. "some ships following you, then they get attacked, you need to defend them, pick some cargo up, guard a group of freigters etc., then a captial ship jumps in, launches waves after waves of attacking ships, and you and your wingmen need to get rid of the attackers" - do that 10 times. I bet it will totally break the illusion.
And, because of the scale of this game, and the sandbox nature, the devs really have to focus on the smaller, more repeatable / generic content, not the spectacle-based scripted one-offs.

I do agree that some more degree of complexity would be nice; the current 'kill X pirates' which may or may not branch into pirates countering the offer with 'kill x authority ships and we pay you more' - that's good enough. More of that sort, I definitely see the need for. And more new generic mission types (scanning a station? scanning an NPC vessel? Tracking a ship through 3 systems? Exploring system X?). But not any huge scripted "plot mission" style stuff.

Well let´s say add 100 of these scripted missions and throw parts of it in the procedural mixer, to keep it interesting. I mean guarding a freighter and defending it at different nav points, could be done as often as other stuff. The missions right now are really one-off "do this or that, get credit reward" style. Can´t say that is any better to do them more than once.

I would love more variety and some arcs too.
I said it many times in other forums and i will again.

Let the community create missions.
It is free employee.
Look at game like Neverwinter nights, Half life - they are timeless thanks to that ......

Star trek online came close with community missions.....
But they dropped the ball with travel system and exploration.
ED has perfect framework for this to work.

Community is amazing asset to have.

And if someone don't like community or complex missions he can ignore them and do just some basic ones.
FD don't squander your chance!
