Can we get a spot in the codex archive that keeps track of rare commodities we've discovered?

And by discovered, I don't mean traded, I mean just that we've found by docking at their respective station and seen the "Enjoy DootDoot's Frozen Mini-Burger! Only available on Doot Castle!" signs everywhere.

This isn't 1985, I'm not gonna pen and paper rare commodities on some kind of notebook thingy! I don't even know how to use a pen! I tried to use one the other day and it ended up sticking me in the rear end and it wasn't pretty! This is what we have technology for!

So a little list would be nice. Click on Codex, Commander, Archive, Trading, and you get

DootDoot - Frozen Mini Burger
LTT 29983 - 29983 LTT 29983 souvenirs case (case only. may not fit exactly 29983 LTT 29983 souvenirs)
Akabingjamishad - CMDR Braben Cardboard Cutout

Maybe when you click one, you get the commodity screen flavour

"Increasing hours logged in cockpits as a result of the introduction of the FSD caused the emergence of a cottage industry of psychological well-being aides for pilots' ships to help them cope with long flights in the alien harshness of the void. Akabingjamishad is known for specially having acquired a Pilots' Federation license to make a cardboard likeness of CMDR Braben, a known pilot folk hero, to act as a companion on deep space journeys. Pilots are known to decorate him in a myriad of fashion per their taste; some with facepaint, others with festive hats, yet others with risque lingerie."

Sounds like a great idea. Support that 100%

To be honest, I'd just like the codex to be able to track my discoveries in a sensible way. Noting down all instances of a certain discovery within a region, not just saying "yep, there's at least one bark mound within the surrounding 10 billion systems". When I know for a fact there's 8 colonies on the planet I'm on right now, and another 24 across the rest of this one system.

So:

Bark Mounds
First Confirmed in #systemname

Then, off to a sidebar you have:

Systems Discovered in
  • #Systemname
    • AB 1 - 8 colonies
    • B 2 C - 4 colonies
  • #Systemname
    • #planetname - #colonies
Etc...

Yeah I wish codex worked differently too. I wish records were public for starters. It would give people a reason to keep searching in an area. So you can have a guy discover this one thing in this one quadrant (a category I imagine is heading towards exhaustion and no doubt will surge towards it once Fleet Carriers happen), but then you can have everyone keep discovering a new record.

But yeah I don't like the explore codex either. Though I'm not too sure about a 100% log because across all the individual data points in the discovery system, when you compound that dataset across a player's entire play history, then compound that by the entire player base of Elite, that seems like a good way to see picket signs when you walk in the server room to see why Elite is down. Obviously the server has to keep track of what you discover until you sell, but once you sell that all gets wiped. Anyway that's speculation. It would be nice if it worked like that. Maybe if it didn't all load until you requested it. At least it would be nice if you could favourite a discovery to be kept in some kind of pretty log at a rate of like one every few days or once a week or something.
