Modes Can we get more players into Open Play?

Hey guys,
I noticed that the Elite playerbase is not very large compared to most "mainstream" games (people are missing out!) and it would be nice to get more people to play in open. Here is my question: Whay mode do you play in? What are your reasons for playing in that mode? If you decided to venture into open, What changes would you like to see to make your gametime more enjoyable?

I always play in open myself. Reason behind my decision? I enjoy human contact regardless if its friendly or hostile! It's what makes this game so enjoyable and challenging. Sure you can be in solo mode and have 1,000,000.000 credits and a A rated cutter, but what is the fun in that? NPC's are really no challenge. Even the Thargoids pose no "great" threat.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Doesn't matter how many are in Open, the instancing will always limit who you can see at any one time. Personally I fly in all modes, depends on the situation. For example, I prefer open for CG's, at the moment it's not an option because my rift mic is playing up with voice attack, so Mobius is the next best option. Game working as intended.

If you want more people in open, fix PVP engagements... Right now it is crazy broken, so until then, PVE private groups are where it's at.

PVP favors time over pilot skills. Pre-engineers PVP was absolutely better.

Without the complete unbalancing of the game brought about with engineers I may have tried my hand at Open and PvP. But as they exist and are apparently not going away, I have neither the time nor inclination to sit for hours trying to RNG my way to a competitive ship.

I stopped playing in open in anything other then my A rated Engineered Conda because I got tired of constantly being ganked by people that have more fun griefing other players instead of actually playing the game. I could see being interdicted and attacked if I was actually carrying cargo, but it seems like I just get interdicted to just be blasted, so to me I have more fun playing in solo when I'm trading or exploring.

Until they have a actual crime and punishment system that makes it worth while I'll stick with solo for anything other then using my combat ship.

Can you elaborate on PVP being "broken"?

Before your next gaming session, post here where you will be in the galaxy and a general outline of your plans.

You'll see lots of challenge in Open then.

Sounds like an interesting idea!

Why do you feel that open needs more players?

The most you would ever see (due to instancing) is 32. And as has been said many times in threads discussing this subject, space is big. If you are lonely and want to see more people, go to community goals in open at a time that lots of other people will be playing.

I usually play in a private group simply because I have no interest in interacting with people I cannot trust.
The risk is simply not worth the reward IMO.

Agreed, the risk of playing in open (running into a pvp ganker, or several) is not worth the reward (there is no increased reward for playing in open)

That said I do tend to run in open. But then right now I'm 5kly outside the bubble slowly working my way back...

Not entirely true, as the OP said, the reward is occasionally meeting other players.
Which granted, is a nice experience. Even meeting a hostile player is an exciting one too.

But as I said, I don't feel it brings enough to the mode when faced with meeting someone who's sole intention is to ruin your experience.

Almost the same. I usually play in open, unless doing CG's. Experience has taught me that private groups offer a far better, more enjoyable experience meeting up with friendly players than CG's in open - where meeting up with people who don't even try to talk before destroying your ship is the general rule.
