Can we have an option to bind a key to switch turret fire mode?

We need more control over turrets in general, but yes, being able to switch turret modes with a keybind is very necessary.
 
Agreed, I'd like them to aim like they do now but ONLY fire when I pull the trigger (in TO mode; FAW is fine as it is) because if they choose when they fire, they drain my capacitor so I can't use other weapons. Such as the plasma accelerator I've got tucked under my nose. Or even a cannon, if I had one.

For the behavior you're describing, just add another fire group that doesn't include your turrets. When you want to save up for a PA shot, swap to the turret-free group. The turrets will cease fire, and your cap will recharge. When you want the turrets to open up again, swap back to a fire group that include them and pull the trigger they're assigned to.
 
Yeah... And that's where the clunky, cumbersome fire group control kicks in. I can't just press a button for different fire groups either--I have to cycle through them. (sigh) I don't even have a command to have my turrets stop firing when the target is bloody DEAD. I have to cycle through ALL of my fire groups--and if I've got turrets you know I've got more than two--and all the way back around to the one they're in, just to get them to quit! Whose bloody idea was this?

You can bind a key to "previous fire group", in addition to "next fire group". It isn't bound to anything by default, but there is a slot for it in the controls menu.
