Can we have NPC Crew sitting in a co-pilot seat?

Trying to resuscitate dead horse here, I know.... and yes, if there are more CMDR crew joining, they need a place to sit too....

....but when I'm NOT in a team at all.... why can't I at least see my crew sitting in a chair?

Yes, the technology is there. Apex pilot. Frontline pilot.

I want an NPC sitting next to me.

It's lonely in my big Corvette cocpit..... And I'm sitting there all alone, my crew probably eating snack, sleeping around in his cabin, playing video games. It's not fair :(

Asked for again and again. I always +1 this idea, but bug fixes are at the top of the content, immersion, QOL changes batting order for FDEV.

This would be such a quick and easy win for FDev I can't understand why they haven't done this already. I'm sure there are many times more NPC crewmembers on ships than human commanders sat in crew seats doing nothing.

FDev went to all the trouble of adding extra seats for Odyssey, but still haven't allowed NPC crew to sit in them 🤪

Of course I still would rather have an NPC in that seat than have to go through all the trouble of mutlicrewing with myself, but that's a long wait for a train don't come.

Horrible thought: maybe FDev think multicrew is more popular than it is because of all the "homemade crewmates" in use?

AFAIK, not that many people do what I do. Heck, even I don't do what I do very often, because it's such a pain in the neck to set up (and inevitably ends in a disconnect). I usually only do it when I know I'm going into an hour or two session in VR. It's nice to have someone literally sitting beside me when stuck in a ship for hours at a time.

Oh, and I can't multicrew and be part of a wing, so no copilot at CGs...

I still much rather have an NPC crew.

Yes please. We already have the holo-me, but we can only use it on one person (unless we multicrew with our alts, but getting multiple copies of ED running on my low-spec PC has a significant performance hit and limits me to Horizons only).

Also, let us see our copilots in the Carrier bar, and let us design the uniforms for our Carrier crew. Again, the holo-me exists, it's not as if this would be difficult to add!

Can't even be bothered to report to the cockpit and yet they expect a 15% cut of everything. Oh no, not from me. Here's your upfront pay; do the job; then get the heck out.

When Odyssey first came out, I remember being very excited to see the NPC crew member there with you in the tutorial and then again in Apex/Frontline shuttles. "Finally," I thought, "everything's in place. We'll have NPC crew in the cockpit in no time!" Big bummer that they're still not there, but I suppose I'd take performance and bug fixes over NPC crew if I had to choose.

They added accessing bartender from sitting down.

If that's not low priority QoL I don't know what is. That's never a lineup. You can only access when u sit close enough. And nothing wrong with standing up. It's pure immersion and QoL.

I hated that release. Yeah yeah yeah they got bug fixes too, but come on. It's already in Apex. And yes not like they can't auto-generated the look if it's too much trouble generating it from the picture.

Didn't they tie accessing a wrist menu to the seated position at the bar?

They would have to redesign the way crew works from the station menus in that case, and also the UI. At the moment if you don't have a fighter module, then any crew you have is technically not even on-board your ship. In Odyssey you can't even see their portraits outside of stations anymore (you used to be able to see inactive crew from the Role panel).

They would need to make inactive crew something you can see in the menu again, and they would need to make inactive crew members be on your ship (meaning that they die when the ship dies - currently inactive crew will not die with you).

Honestly I'd rather them do a full overhaul of NPC crew. It is a bit ridiculous that they added an entire NPC crew feature that takes up a menu spot on all stations that only has a single function for a collection of modules that the vast majority of ships can't even use.

Bonus points if the NPC crew doesn't reduce your XP/credit gains by fractions just for sitting in those seats. (Or for any other rationale for that matter.)

Yeah, after seeing Apex shuttles and Frontline pilots, it's making NPC multicrew look even more necessary.
I can go to a station, hire some pilots, then get in a type-9 and flip through the camera and just see my commander surrounded by empty seats.
Seems a bit silly and a touch depressing.
Like...I just hired some people, do they just hide in the broom closet the whole flight?

Careful, this would require rebaking the NPCs' appearance and make our crewmates all selected by looks ugly.
They would need to fix all other portraits as well. Since the very beginning of Ody I see different parts of commanders or NPC bodies (or other non-distinguishable parts) everywhere in the UI. And even when it occasionally works they are loading so slow like I am using dial-up connection from 1999 once again.

Well unfortunately, it looks like they've just entirely removed NPC portraits now so I guess that part of the problem is ..."fixed"....

At some point, they'll maybe feel ridiculous and ashamed ignoring that request and acting as if it didn't exist...
When I think about all those players that will leave for Starfield...
