Can we have "OUR" computers on "Our" Spaceships?

Think about it.

How often to we hit the windows key? I have two requests:

1: Please add an option for a music folder while we fly, with a basic audio player. But it has to run through the audio engine of ED, so we get the correct spatial characteristics of our cockpit. Can you imagine being all happy, tootling along, listening to Frankie doing fly me to the moon, and the canopy is blown out? Next thing all we hear is crooning with a barely audible scratchy voice with the higher noise of the air being sucked out?

Its one of those touches that really put you in your seat! Should have been done in the first year!


2: Please add the FD Forum ITSELF to the new codex. Considering the amount we use it, it should be a no brainer. Something serious for FD to consider here: If implemented correctly, it might be a way of keeping abuse that you do not want to hear safely locked away among groups. Once people come to their senses "In Game" they might hopefully be a little more polite and helpful "Out of Game"

It is actually something quite dear to my heart. Because I know I can get angry myself, and with enough booze, be abusive. And that is not correct. I believe very firmly, that we get a little looser socially with the internet, and it is oh... ever so easy to flame somebody you have never met. Yeah. sure. I have my own excuses, but it doesn't change that you guys are just doing your jobs and you take pride in that. You gotta go home to your family in the evening after some Joff has just dissed all your work. That's not right on its own, and we should change that.

I would vote for an ingame CG rating system. We all know some simply cannot be completed due to the authors demands.
But then we can also have an entire CG forum of people helping each other.

We could have a ingame forum questionnaire of people complaining about the heat levels on the Mamba.
Then again, we can also have a questionnaire of people complimenting the combat system...


But hopefully it provides a buffer zone on the guys who must get home to their families... to not worry too much about tomorrow morning.

Love the audio idea. Has any game ever done that? Some do it with voice coms but I haven't seen one do it with an in-game music player.

I always wondered why so many people were interested to have an audio system in the ships when they could easily play their music in the background using the windows key. Now I think with your idea of changing the sound characteristics according to the ship and situation seems to be the first time there's a good reason to seriously consider it.

+1 for that.

A group I used to play with hated the way that voice comms distort in the game, so we always used discord. If any of them still played, I imagine they would be less than impressed with their favorite tunes glitching out when flying near a black hole.

I actually love the comms distortion as they add to the i-thing. There was a time, when comms were also affected by ship damage, which was even more awesome.

And an ingame music player for playing external soundfiles would be very cool. With effects on top would be even cooler...

I suggested an in game audio player AGES ago!! Imagine clicking on the right panel and selecting AC-DC while you and your Crew member blow up half the Galaxy! or just cruising doing exploration and listening to records of Johnny Cash.

Yes from me for music! as for the forum, it shouldn't be needed if there are adequate tutorials and info in place. personally they should add at least another 10 or so tutorials for exploration (Ch4) mining (ch4) Thargoid combat, where to find certain materials, engineers, and so on... oh, and how to use the codex and powerplay :D

I'm not sure about THE forum, but A forum would be nice. Especially if it was treated as if we were interacting with the 34th century forum. It would be nice to be able to message ship designers directly, or to offer suggestions, etc.

edit: but instead of playing elite very old on the sidepanel, maybe let us queu for CQC Arena form ingame instead???

That would be awesome to have a spaceship with a hi-fi audio system!!

It would be a great feature for Frontier to showcase ED and their gaming engine's cobra code.

It would highlight the ease of pointing a user's music folder/library to the game audio engine.

Playing and pausing music like the built in news reader would be just fantastic.

Although it might open a security issue with the game's coding and open it to hacks.

The other way is to just get a second monitor and run ED in border-less so you can use the second monitor to browse the forum and have a music app running alongside.

I hit the windows key all of the time as well OP. I really don't in other games. There is usually something commanding my immediate attention in those experiences. If the SC mechanic were changed to require a 1/3 of the time that it does, I don't imagine I would be ditching the game to find audio entertainment as often. I currently stream music in the background while on discord, or listen to a podcast.

I think there should be an html/xml driven api interface and a mods-folder in the Ed directory.

The html allows basic stuff, menus, tabs, headings, and hooks to ship functions and (maybe) computer related stuff - warning for bots/scripts, mp3 readers need a license(?)

So a panel literally can render a “mobile” web-page.

So limited YouTube,
Or a custom interface to Inara/eddb etc

To maintain control, ED can host the files, so user submit them to Fdev.
Otherwise we add them, via from the main menu or client menu, point to a www or GitHub url link or file on the hard disk.
