Can we interdict people at a distance of 6500LS?

I never use warp interdictors so I don't know what the effective range is for the various classes.

Last night I was interdicted by an AI anaconda at a distance of 6500LS.

Seemed a bit... impressive.

Thanks CMDRs

Technically... yes. At least for all I know. I've seen NPCs interdict me from as far as 11500Ls (went idle during a Hutton run to let a Convoy of Players catch up - unknowing to me, an NPC was on its way to Interdict me all that time ;) )

Caviat : You need one hell lot of positive Vc for that to happen.

I reckon an 6500Ls Interdiction Range would need... In excess of ~750c closure rate or more.
In all normal Systems and conditions, these parameters can't be reached though.

Effective range is time-based - that is, the speed of the interdicting ship x range of interdictor.
4A interdictor has a range of 16s (un-engineered) so if the ship is travelling at a little over 400c then you'd be in range.
With engineering the range can reach 22s, so 300c speed will put you in range.

At a max speed of 2001c with a long range engineered interdictor, range would be around 45kLS.

Uhh... I forgot about the Engineers.

So my old estimate (unengineered) would have had to read ~375c Vc or more then. I'd call that pretty close :)

Ahh ok... I didn't understand the mechanic behind the interdiction range. Thanks! This all makes perfect sense now. I was indeed traveling to an installation approx 400LS from the main sequence star. Totally makes sense that the AI was able to interdict me at that distance due to the speed. :)

Cheers CMDRs!

IMO it'd really improve the game if we had more info on this available in-game. I never really know at what range or speed I can be interdicted or safe, meaning it feels more like a random event than a tactic/skill-based game. If the scanner showed (or could be switched to a 'rear-only' mode to show) targets behind your ship and a marker showing the interdiction thresholds (distance and angles), then we could clearly see how far we have to get away to stay safe.
