Engineers Can we just remove firmware?

It is by far the worst thing to go after, yet just about every mod requires them.

I'm not a fan of trying to take out a base only to have ONE SINGLE CHANCE at something I need. Taking out bases it a lot of work.
I'm also not a fan how I have to pray for the correct USS to spawn and pray even more that USS has the firmware I need (it doesn't. never does). And if I don't want to pray for USSs, I would have to pray for missions, which require even more prayer that they don't bug out and become impossible to complete.

Since 2.1 released, I have attacked 15 bases, not a single firmware I need. I have dropped into countless USS (the encoded AND decoded ones) only to leave with nothing again (because I'm also full on materials I would rather not junk). I have scoured many stations hoping to find the mission reward I need, only to once again find nothing.

Just....please remove them FD. They're not fun to get, and to get a chance at just one simply takes far too much.

Well I have a much different experience. Just book mark systems that offer rewards you are looking for and hit them up till you get the required amount. I got 6 polonium today. You are blowing this out of proportion and apparently doing it in an inefficient way. There are plenty of guides out now on how to cut out some RNG and where to find what you are looking for.

Missions are just as RNG dependent as everything else. How long should I have to sit in a station to refresh the board (something FD doesn't want me doing btw, see robigo)? An hour? 5 hours? A week?

Just because one or two people have found missions to be helpful, doesn't mean RNGesus will be kind to everyone. Anecdotal evidence isn't evidence. Lets not forget that some missions are outright bugged, or impossible to complete due to "updated objective" variance.

You have had a rather positive experience with the RNG. I can confirm that the OP is not blowing things out of proportion because I have had the exact same luck.

Read my whole post. You don't have to sit in one station.

Really has nothing to do with RNG, you find a honey pot and you shake it for what it is worth. Or in my case 3 honey pots for polonium/legacy firmware.

Indeed just run missions for a bit. I got all my materials (12 of one type) by just hopping systems and running missions as you would normally. You scan for cargo and material rewards and if they turn up bonus (they will eventually). If not pick a few missions and run them to the next system.

What does one stations BB have over another? Aside from system status they are identical.

That is your issue then. Each faction tends to reward specific items more often than others. So pick a faction that offers material X, Y, or Z that you want and work with them and another one or two and you will get what you want relatively quick.

It took me 3 hours to find 1 polonium on the surface the other day while, today I did just what I described and got more than enough to grade 5 my usual ships.

Gotta say - I agree. I need firmware to complete just level 3 engineering modification (my current sticking point). Did not have any before, still dont have any now... Very hard to find. Have not come across missions offering them yet. They seem to be core components, yet very elusive - Frontier maybe look at this please..?

Uh, yes it does. Mission rewards are RNG roll. Materials on surface are RNG roll. Engineering mods are RNG roll.

Everything is RNG roll.

So. . .what are you on about?

I have already tried dozen of station types, sitting in them for hours each to refresh the board. I'm glad you're RNGesus' chosen one, but not all of us are.

I would be surprised if FD doesn't make some respectable changes to all of this Fetch Quest crap in the next point update. I've stopped bothering with the Engineer Easter Egg Hunt until then.

I still collect stuff from ship debris and whatnot, but I am not wasting large portions of my sessions looking for these things. Its just not a very fun way spend your precious game time in opinion.
