Can we please have a navigation target separate from a hud target?

Devs - please separate the nav target from the hud target. Our next navigation choice shouldn't be overridden by targeting a ship in front of us, right?

It would be nice to have that....

It is probably too late in the day for the HUD to be modified to accommodate a new target indicator, however, if the target display could be toggled between combat and navigation targets (automatically in the event of selecting a new target of either type) it would be an improvement, in my opinion.

I opened a thread for this in the beta and very much agree. The good thing is, you can do this already by using the 'next target' button. However the 'target front' seems to unlock your destination.

+1. And add target speed value while your at it FD. :) Also please add a "clear all targets" button please. We can only jump from target to target. I feel "dirty" sometimes and just want to clear everything and have nothing targeted.

Again though, suggestions should go in the suggestion section of the forum. General section moves so fast and this thread will be buried real soon. ;)

The developpers of the HUD would really benefit immensly by looking and learning from real life military aircraft HUD designs and functionalities in order to approach the designing of ED's HUD from a flight simulation angle rather than a console shooter perspective.

It needs a whole lot of work still imho.

Make a NAV computer separate from the weapons, science scanner etc. the NAV computer should list all the systems in you route and be more useful when you navigate around. So yes +1 to OP's request.

Support to this suggestion. It really needs to be done. It's really annoying to have your navigation target be overriden by some nobody in front of you.

I figured this out by accident but a real function for it would be much better.

+1 to this. Would be a great improvement! As an explorer, it always bothers me that I have to constantly change my hud target.

I'm an explorer and I deliberately don't scan an undiscovered star I find on a route just so I don't have to open the map and reselect my nav target after selecting and scanning the star.

This.

I go through the targets flying around me in supercruise all the time while keeping my navlock on the station I'm flying towards.

OP should add that only "target in front" ('T' by default) responds unexpectedly. (Although, in all fairness, I use it to switch navlock if an USS pops up.)

Totally agree. Its a mystery to me why a tactical computer system in 3300 isnt able to handle navigational plus tactical targets!

And why we are at it: Why the heck do i have to point my nose at a blip to see if its a star, planet or USS??? Mysterious design decisions...
