Can We Put This CZ & AI Nonsense to Bed Now?

Recent threads - some cmdrs constantly moaning that CZs are unfair & AI rails never miss..this usually results in the cautious cmdrs piping up with how to skirt around the edges like a big girl! No, don't do that, it is embarrassing!:p Instead, just wading in and then reacting accordingly is a perfectly good way to play CZs..and the chosen method for real men - or real women, for that matter & ofc, real small, furry creatures.. etc etc

First example in the vid - the aforementioned 'wade into the middle', shout 'let's 'ave it' in a Jason Statham voice & see what happens. Okay, things don't go well..so I decide to draw a couple of lambs to their slaughter, instead! Once you are happy with the odds..it is time to do a 180 & kick some AI botty!

First thing to hit me, metaphorically & literally, is a rail gun - time to change tactics - you must get off the head-on vector to avoid the rails..I thought everyone knew this, but obviously not..

I'm only a casual player, but even I know lateral/vertical thrust is key to this technique! As you can see many rails miss me (apart from the first hits ofc). With 2 ships it is advisable to stay on the move, this is where the traditional method of staying behind or at 90 deg to your chosen target is not the greatest option because the other rail-toting ship can just nail you time & time again (as can be seen at 1:48 on the vid, the one time I do this!)

Second example is the escape plan, when things get too hot to handle ie the 'come in cmdr x, your time is up' scenario, that everyone encounters in CZs eventually..where player focus overrides logic & your 10 allies in close proximity just sit back & watch the entertainment on offer:O - presumably, happy it is not them on the end of the barrage!

Time to boost away & after a reasonable gap opens up, I go to 'debug cam' - this shows a simple FAOFF spiral evades most hits from the rails - this works well, but FAOFF boosting with lat/vert thrusters is even more effective..this is obviously impossible in debug. The final moments of the vid, I revert to first person while hitting boost & the distance from my pursuers increases; with normal top speed in 'debug' the AI closed this distance to less than 1.5km & most of those rails were still missing!

However, try flying straight & see how many miss from this distance! I think that's why the whining defeatists say 'awww they cheat..they never miss!' - which as can be clearly seen, is bovine excrement..QED!

I wonder what the Devs think when they read these kinds of comments - their job is difficult enough sorting out the genuine issues in the game, without red herrings like this - I can only assume they think we're !

I'm going to have to say no (and why would you start a new thread about a topic you want to die?)

The rank/ship/cargo based interdictions are my #1 issue with the game (it's a very short list). Making the AI easier at the low end & harder at the top was a poor design decision this long after launch imo, but if the interdictions are put back to their former ruleset I'd be happy enough with that.

The CZ AI being much more powerful is fair enough I think, you don't have to go there & it seems to provide a challenge for those that want to seek it out.

What bothers me with the 2.1 cz AI is the enemies always focus fire on me. There can be multiple npc from my side shooting at them but they still focus fire at me. When npc spot me at cz it will lock on to me and doesn't stop the aggro until the npc is death or i die. The cz felt more realistic before 2.1 when enemy npcs didn't specially target player over every npc on your side.

I have to agree, CZs are quite manageable for those who know how to fly decently and keep their heads in combat. Hell, I've even had success at one in my Sidewinder.

Yeah, I think the AI level is about right in CZs - tough but doable. Actually, flying in CZs could be one of the highest-paying combat jobs around, if you stack "kill XX ships in CZ" missions. Today I made 11M in two CZ sessions (in my unmodded FAS) - better than what a Hi-RES would typically give.
