Can we stop local police flying into our lasers?

When I have been trying to kill someone who appears as wanted the dumb idiot local POLICE always manage to fly into my laser beams path! The AI is really stupid!

You shoot something that you can see when it can't see you and it's stupid? OK, got it.
Erm, when it happens, you actually can't see something approaching your line of sight from your blind zone, while something that approaches your laser beams, clearly sees them (because it moves forward facing them).

It happens, and teaches you to be more cautious so the avoidable ff incidents become more... avoidable.

I had a police viper "intercept" a missile I shot while on the way to a felon once, at quite a distance... lol! All you can do is laugh.

Nothing's "broken" with the AI in this regard though, imhop.

Its even more annoying with projectile weapons because it doesnt sometimes matter even if you stop firing before the authority vessel is between you and the target. The projectiles are so slow.

That is certainly more difficult than the laser situation. Head tracking + situational awareness FTW.

Not when he jumps in front of you while you are pouring energy into the bad guy!

Keep one eye on the radar. Should help although in fairness it can become quite cluttered. I rarely hit them with my lasers now. What i do find though is they will sometimes ram into the back of me and i get fined for assault!

Radar is useless, especially when there is also cargo cannisters and trash and whatever floating around. You dont see manure on that tiny display.

Sorry, this happened to me a few times when I began playing. Now it hardly ever happens. I've learned to read the radar and pay attention to my shots. Perhaps others should try that as well.

For what it's worth there is a friendly fire thread that has been going for a while. You will be happy to know that this is being addressed in the 1.1 release. Those advocating trigger control do have a point though. ;)

As much as I'm all for watching your fire, and being careful, I have to disagree about the AI.

Any normal player would purposely avoid flying towards lasers and other sorts of fire.
The AI has a death sentence and does not care for such a thing - this is where it needs changing.

I feel that they should also be aware of their surroundings, as players are. And if they see weapons firing, then to detect the prediction of the fire and avoid flying into that zone.

That simply is the risk of doing combat. I fly into the lasers of the police too (I wonder if they become wanted because of that :)).

What I would like to see is a different way of dealing with this.
I think it would be better to give us a fine instead of becoming instantly wanted with a ridiculously insignificant bounty of 200 cr. I feel a bounty below 1000 credits should not even be possible. It should always be a fine.
When you persist in firing on a police ship the fine should become higher and higher, until you actually destroy a police ship.
Only then you should become wanted.
