I feel like this is one of the most glaring flaws in the game currently and has been somewhat exacerbated by the nerf patch. It's definitely an active detractor in my games and I feel it's worth at least having a conversation about.
For anyone who isn't already aware, to respec a battle brother you need to first have one die with the proper facility on your ship constructed. Due to the nature of resilience however, this in actuality usually involves trying to get the same poor rookie killed 2-4 times depending on their starting stat.
In addition, you can also use their geneseed to gain a single ability point. For reference, there is an achievement in the game to unlock all nodes on a skill tree. With the base level being 9, this gives us 18 points baseline. There are 36 total nodes in every class' tree. This means you will need to repeat the above process 18 times in order to do this. And since there is a long recovery period after critical wounds you may be forced to try to cycle in and out the people you're trying to kill.
This endeavour could easily take 400+ days just due to the nature of recovery times, not to mention the countless missions spent where you are trying to murder 1/4th of your combat power. I'm willing to level and agree that an achievement can be hard to get, but this is an MMO level grind for one. This feature quite plainly just does not work in the game - I don't want to feel incentivized as the player to kill my knights.
Make it take a Prognosticar, make the knight go on a trial of penance and be unavailable for some amount of time in order to respec or gain an AP after they've hit cap. Use the geneseed system as a means of preserving desirable traits or a way to quickly boost XP of the same class. The current system as is does not make sense and does not work.
P.S - Please give helmets for Librarians!
Thank you. <3
