Can you get Allied with multiple Major Factions?

I was thinking about doing some missions / trading / BH in Empire space (as that's where I currently am), but don't want to if I lose rep with the Federation for doing so.
Do you gain negative with the opposing factions for doing work in the other ones?

You can be Allied with all three major factions simultaneously.

After reaching Ensign started to level up on the Empire side. Allied with both now, reached Viscount.

Whats more you can hold ranks in all three (if the alliance had ranks).
