Can you have more than one fuel tank?

I've noticed I can fit 2 fuel tanks. Can both be used?
also when using the galactic map, the tooltip that appears over a system that we use to set waypoints, takes a while to appear. I have to move the pointer away from the system and then back several times before it appears. Is this normal?

Note that the more fuel you carry, the shorter your jump range becomes. The fuel tanks themselves don't add mass, but the fuel you fill them with does :)

But you can manage that as you see fit. For example, if your ship comes with a 32T tank by default, and you add another 32T tank, you will double your fuel capacity. But if you actually fill up 64T of fuel, your jump range will go down. If you only fill up half of that, your jump range is going to be the same as with only one tank. And by extension, if you only have a quarter of fuel filled, your jump range is gonna increase further.

If you're not deep space exploring, none of this really matters though. But if you are, then this kind of fuel management can be useful to get a higher range. An Asp for example, can do 38LY per jump if you don't have full tanks. But you need to pay attention to your route so that you don't get stranded if your last jump brings you into a system without any scoopable stars in it. So, be careful and pay attention to the galaxy map route. You can use the "map" mode to only display systems with scoopable stars. The only types of stars that are scoopable are: O, B, A, F, G, K, M. So if you only enable those in the "show by color -> star class" list, you know where you can refuel. Fortunately, all those are listed first, so it's easy to quickly turn them on and off. (A quick way to remember which types are scoopable, is to remember the word "KGB FOAM".)

Nice to know people. As an aside, can you buy fuel for these extra tanks by the tonne, or are they automatically filled to the top when you refuel?

I used to have an extra fuel tank in my Asp but I ditched it. I have yet to come close to running out of fuel (probably just jinxed myself) and ditching the extra tank extended my jump range a good bit.

why would you need an extra Fuel Tank, when you can buy a Fuel scoop. Like others have said it adds weight and affects the jump range which equates to 'TIME Wastage'

Consider looking at one??

My Orca has a standard fuel tank and instead of a shield I have a fuel tank. And insted of an AFMU I have a fuel tank. And instead of a class 2 cargo rack I have a fuel tank.
I never worry about fuel.

It's probably useful for rares trading? Rares don't take up much cargo (so you can choose the extra tank instead) but you need to travel far. Fuel scooping incurs downtime, so the extra tank makes sense here.

Depends. If you're just going from A->B (for whatever reason - to join a CG or somesuch, for example, or just to join your troupe of friends) - fuel tanks can shave a lot of time which would be spent while scooping.

Yes, my FAS has 32t of fuel with 2 tanks. They count as one.

See post above, scooping is a time sink. I already have to scoop my t9 and conda for long distances. And my dbx for sure.

(Scooping is not so bad at all. Buy an a class scoop and u dont even have to stop in most cases.)

Also, it can save time when you run into large "brown fields" where there are no scoopables. Occasionally, on long trips, this has happened to me, and I've spent ages plotting shorter routes to the nearest scoopable.
