Can you make something attack when doing data missions

Elite dangerous is becoming very safe. And not so safe if I have cargo, i can be interdicted.

But I have noticed data missions do not have any risk. All you ever see is a potential time bonus if delivered quickly.

I did 6 data mission today in multiple systems, not once did anything get me. These were also dangerous and elite level missions I would expect these to have sone element of danger.

I understand low rank wouldn't be attacked but anything competent and above should be.

Data missions usually come with less risk but also less reward? The payouts may have changed now but I found them to be great when I started up in playing ED until i could get a bigger ship and then go for the bigger money / missions.

Data missions do have risk. When I was stacking 10 of them for Rep I was attacked by 3 Anacondas and 2 pythons once. Each from 5 of the missions. Best part was knowing that I'd have to kill them four times.

Honestly, I find this with with most mission types...

For data delivery, I suspect that FD think (perhaps know) that they are mostly taken by new players since they have little financial reward, or players looking to rank up with a new minor faction, so they make them routine.

But personally I agree that if a faction are asking for a high ranking pilot to do a job it should be because they know that a mission will be opposed. I find it bizarre that I can take a bunch of elite ranked delivery missions, earning up to 20 million credits for them, and absolutely nothing happens.

Unfortunately it's because of the reliance on RNG. IMHO, if they made it so specific missions were going to be opposed and stated that in the mission details rather than the silly "Hostile ships may be sent against you" that is written in pretty much every mission description, players would be able to choose their level of risk, and FD could match reward against the risk. It would be much more realistic and believable. And if a player wanted a bit of combat for a reason, rather than just farming, they could choose a mission that offered it. :)

Yeh I'm not saying they don't come with risk, just (from the missions I picked) typically less. I guess it depends partly on the recommended rank, where to etc. Again, if you are in a small ship then you can usually outrun the bigger Pythons / Anacondas etc if necessary anyway.

Why pick on poor little defenless data missions? They fit well with new players needing initial credits, all players
advancing faction reps, and "icing on the cake" in combination with other mission types.

Data missions seem to get interdicted the rarest and more often by normal RNG/BGS not associated with the mission.
Passenger missions occasionally get interdicted.
Cargo missions regularly get interdicted.
Stacking long distance smuggling missions ensures that a player will be very popular with wanted NPCs.
Also don't miss out on the fun hauling gold in a Nav Beacon or Rez site. Check your ship rebuy first.

Sure, an Elite rated data mission doesn't make immersion sense but the game play predictability seems well balanced.
So pick one's desired challenge for the moment and have fun! :)

Not true - the chance of mission wrinkles varies depending on the surrounding circumstances, location, and other factors but the wrinkles can and do include effects other than time bonus. Data missions are reasonably safe on the whole BUT they also have amongst the lowest pay-outs individually.

Given that it's basically impossible to fail the interdiction minigame I'm not sure increasing the likelihood of it happening is going to increase the difficulty of data delivery missions.

Instead they should make the higher ranked ones longer range and massively reduce the delivery window. Unfortunately, since SC speeds are the same for all ships, there's no current niche for a high-speed courier ship.

Having some delivery missions that require avoiding scans might make them more interesting too.

I have been doing data missions for a week, in order to faction rank. I will have up to 20 data mission at a time, and I make a circle of fours systems. While one data mission is probably not that dangerous, having a full load of data (20) is actually more dangerous than hauling cargo. I seem to get interdicted as frequently as when I have a full load of valuable cargo. However, while a pirate will take your cargo and let you go, a bounty hunter will kill you with the data, and destroy your ship. I found that out the hard way.
