Can you mine for fuel?

This may seem a stupid question, but I'm genuinely interested.

Can you mine rocks / asteroids for minerals that can be refined or converted into fuel for your ship (not SRV)?

I'm always trying to find ways to cut down on having to use certain internals (e.g. fuel scoop) and thought that it would be good to have an extra internal slot for a mining ship, to turn it into a proper scavenger vessel.

If not, do you think such a mechanic should be implemented?

no you cant mine anything and turn it into fuel. Be nice though, who knows one day we might have deadicated mineing ships.

Ah, that's a shame!

Yeah it would be a great feature! A mining ship should have the ability to be completely self sufficient without the need of having a fuel scoop on top, considering that it would be a far more lengthy process to mine the minerals required for fuel, but that would be a good balance and wouldn't render the fuel scoop as useless.
