Can You Pay to be a beta tester?

Lets face it, a lot of beta players are off playing other games.. Elite Dangerous had a lot of growing pains with the nerfs, balancing, the Python, and content or lack of. I have committed to this game from retail and I'm not going any where. I own many ships on the SC servers but for me and my clan this is home. So we would like to have some say as to where this game is headed.

So I think it's time to open Beta registration back up, especially for clan leaders, as it is I can tell our members nothing outside of speculation and hype. How can I get Beta access?

I would have no objections to beta being opened up but I think a small fee would at least ensure people were serious about testing (and generate funds of course).

Don't think there is any route imto beta unless you were already part of beta in development.

You do not need beta access, you already have input in the form of feedback on the forum. As someone who has beta access I can assure you we have no special input other than on the forum.

We just get to test and report bugs on what we're given.

If people want to pay to be in the beta that's fine by me , it gives FD more cash to spend on the game .

I would say no as we bought it early to have the beta access, but given Frontiers track record for ethics it would not surprise me to see them do it

I'll point out the funny bits for you.....

Actually, it's all funny!

No comment on implied complaints about FD's ethics. However, there are several obvious potential reasons why they have not opened the beta testing up to a new intake after they went live, despite saying they would consider it:

1. Fear about the bad press and complaints if they did so when Kickstarters paid for the right to be able to do so. ((I think most Kickstarters would be fine if the fee they charged was roughly equivalent to the extra the kickstarters pledged for the right. There would undoubtedly be a pile of folks complaining though, because this is the internet)).

2. They think they have enough beta testers for now, so there is no point. ((Can't have too many, IMHO))

3. It would take time and effort for little financial or QA gain, when there are more important things to do. ((I might even agree with this one))

4. etc.

and as an opposing opinion from a beta backer, i don't care if they want to sell access again. i wasn't trying to buy exclusivity, just early access, and not having to buy future updates.

I'm pretty sure if you wave a credit card at them you'll get access.

I'm also pretty sure with beta's you don't get to influence any design. It's already been designed and produced, you just test it.

I'm in the beta group and to be quite honest, aside from pre-release access to the game (I was impatient to play), I've never made use of the test releases for the updates so far. Since doing so requires creating a separate save which is scrubbed when the update's released, it just seems like wasted play time.

One of my many regrets in life was not backing this game on Kickstarter.
I already had paid out several hundred dollars on other Kickstarter projects which had not yet matured (at the time) so I was hesitant.
Oh well...you live and learn.

So yes, I would pay for Beta access.
I've been playing this game since 1984....does that not count for anything?
:D

Uhm.. wait a sec - access to betas is restricted? Wow, okay - utterly nonsense if you ask me, but okay. If FD thinks that a testphase should only be accessible to backers. Not that i totally agree that backers should get something really nice for their efforts, but to make it count where at least i would like to have as many people testing who would like to *raises eyebrow*. Oh well, guess i don't need to understand everything in my life.

EDIT: Before someone barks regarding my statement. Again, i'm not angry about it. Simply colour me surprised about such a decission, to say the least. Or i get something very wrong here. We are speaking of actually beta testing yes? Like testing 1.3 before final launch?
