Can you play Planet Zoo on a laptop?

Dear future players.

I love to play, but do not have much knowledge on techs, when it comes to computers and gaming. :geek:

My laptop has following: "Core i7 4720HQ / 2.6 GHz, 8 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M" it is an ASUS ROG G751JT-T7128H.
I would like to be able to play with pretty high settings, because that is part of the experience. Playing while enjoying the graphics.

I've been told, that these specs arent quite enough... Is there anything I can do to make my LAPTOP better?
Or is the only way, buying a new one? Do you, in that case have any suggestions? As low price as possible. I do like ASUS, as that just always does the job - but I am open for other brands...

PLEASE give som advice... Thanks in advance!!! :)(y)

Laptop vs desktop has nothing to do with it, but rather the specs inside.

As you said, your specs are quite low if you're expecting to play on high for graphics. The question is: how easy is it for you to start changing components in your laptop? For example you'd want at least 16GB for RAM, although 32GB would be better. But whether you can do that or not depends on if your laptop was built to allow you to add higher RAM or not. Same with the graphics card, although I admit I'm a little less familiar when it comes to changing out graphics cards in laptops vs desktops.

Laptops aren't really all that friendly towards changing out components. That's what makes desktops better. You might be better off just buying a new laptop.

I played the beta with only 8gb of ram on my PC and it was fine for the most part but my ram was almost always at max capacity, so I would not recommend playing the game with 8gb of ram if at all avoidable although it is tolerable, i played it on a mid/high setting and it ran alright, although fps drops were occasional but being someone who plays most of the games I play with 8gb ram I am used to frame drop and can handle frame rates at as low as 30fps without being annoyed personally.
If you meet the minimum recommended settings with your laptop then your are probably fine, but don't expect to play it with max setting by any means.
I think 16gb of ram is more then what you would need, and for better performance probably have the game run on an ssd, which again i do not have, i use a fairly new hdd with minimal content on it so most of my stuff that runs on it runs pretty smoothly but no where near as quickly as an ssd would. So although not recommended it is more enjoyable experience to use an ssd tho they can be a bit pricey.
If you were open to building a PC then you probably can put one together on pc part picker or something for a entirely reasonable price. As for a laptop i dont think you can just switch out parts like you can on a pc with such ease.

I would say if you meet at least the minimum requirements, then you can probably run the game, certainly not at full capacity. If you want to enjoy the game at it's full glory then probably best to start working on a pc build instead of a laptop build, or i guess you could spend on a newer laptop with recommended settings for the game but if your not gonna be traveling a lot and what not then probably just get a pc since you can always swap stuff out eventually if you need to upgrade for future content.

I'll let others recommend actual needed specs but I only have a laptop now which I upgraded last spring. I have a feeling your graphics adapter may be a little overloaded. I have a RTX 2060 which ran everything perfectly with no framerate drop but occasionally the cooling fan kicked into high gear.

Thanks a lot everyone. I really do want to play the game with the best graphics, so... I think a new laptop is on the wishlist. I have a hard time finding one, that works for me, as I am not a very tech knowing person :p

The best thing to keep in mind when buying a new laptop is that, for instance, an Nvidia GTX 970M is not as powerful as a GTX 970. The M stands for Mobile, they are generally smaller and therefore, less powerful. If you are gonna use money to buy a new laptop, make sure the laptop version of whatever hardware it is using is on par or above the minimum requirements. You can even find some laptops that have full desktop versions of graphic cards, though they are generally more expensive.

Do you happen to have computer dedicated stores where you live, such as Memory Express? If you're not really a tech person it might be worth a trip in to talk to someone and get advice on what to buy. Memory Express also often has sales on gaming laptops, especially MSI, so they're a good place to shop.

I personally recommend: Nvidia for graphics card (everyone has their likes, I personally prefer Nvidia), an i7 processor (i5 is already getting too low for good gaming laptop), and at least 16GB RAM. Goodluck!

Your amount of RAM is the same as my laptop, your CPU is similar and your GPU is way better than mine. I could run the game on low settings (except for textures and terrain, both turned on high) pretty smoothly, with the occasional stutter when moving around too much.

Yeah, absolutely. Beta ran like a dream on mine, and PlanCo and Jurassic World are wonderful on ultra settings.

My laptop:
HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop
Model: 15-cx0154TX
Intel Core i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz
8gb RAM (7.89GB usable)
64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
Intel UHD Graphics 630

I'll see how it goes when I have the biggest map, full of animals and people and a billion trees - I might have to upgrade to 16gb RAM. The only concern at the moment is that it gets crazy hot!!

We have an ASUS laptop with a GTX 1060. I could play on max graphics in a small zoo. Largers zoos required me to turn down the graphics setting. We have a desktop with a GTX 970 and planning to upgrade multiple components on it when we have the money for I will be playing on the laptop for the forseeable future.

I reckon you can run it with that. Mine doesn't even have a proper graphics card, and it ran ok, little bit of lag on high settings but nothing too drastic

Hey, just wondering what laptop you have? I really wanted Planet Zoo as a holiday gift, but my laptop is a Lenovo Yoga 730 and doesn't have a graphics card (it has a built-in one I think - my PC knowledge is minimal). If you are able to play it on your laptop, that would be great news for me! Thanks so much in advance. (edit: I wouldn't mind playing on low graphics, I'd just be happy to play at all)

By the way my laptop specs are:
Intel(R) core(TM) i5 8250CPU @ 1.60 GHz
8GB RAM (little less than that available it says)
64-bit
Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620

I have the Asus right with the 9750h cpu rtx2060 gpu and 16 Tb ram with extra space for another 16 and it runs ultra and high settings no problem. The biggest flaw is battery life but I just charge while playing.

Just throwing this in. I have 8GB RAM and the game runs fine.

I'll probably be the only one here in this thread, but I would not recommend it. Get yourself a computer with better specs than that.

I do! Albeit I play on the lowest resolution, but that doesn’t bother me. The game runs fine. I have a separate mouse though that I plug in.

Just wanted to put an update out there for anyone in my situation looking to get Planet Zoo: I bought the game to test it and it worked! It (obviously) doesn't look as nice as it could with better specs, but it runs pretty well (a bit laggy in bigger zoos) all things considering. In conclusion, if the only thing stopping you from buying Planet Zoo is your graphics card (or lack thereof), buy the game to test it, and if it doesn't work you can refund it (steam's refund policy: you are able to refund a game you've had for <2 weeks and played for <2 hours).

tldr: buy and test the game if your graphics card is your only concern

I bought a high-end gaming laptop specifically for it and it still struggles. Not so much with the game itself, but the processing power required makes it heat up really quickly.
