Can you save/exit from certain death?

So, if you are playing online against real people, and you find yourself losing a fire-fight with eminent destruction looming, what would happen if your Mum says, "put that down now, dinners ready, so you hit esc save and exit?

Do you suddenly disappear, (intact), and unless your opponent determinedly hangs around waiting for you to finish your tea, you rejoin the game in what is now safety?

Or does your ship remain there without you so you find when you return to the game, your ship has been destroyed in your absence?

Could this be a game spoiler?

I've not tested or seen it myself, but it was mentioned in a different Thread that you stay for 15 seconds. Don't know if it's true.

As an ex pirate it is a game spoiler. There is a 15 second cooldown now, however if you've been damaged. It happened to me in a conflict zone.

Yeah, there's a 15-second delay if you try and logout when anything red is on the scanner. I bounty hunt alot, and it's not uncommon for me to be logging off with a bunch of associated faction NPC's have gone red on me. They don't have to be hostile and attacking you, just the potential threat is enough.
