Hardware & Technical Can you use a separate keypad for controls?

Hello!

I was wondering if it would be possible to use a keypad such as this and mount it in front of my throttle in the style of this to use it alone with my hotas to remove the need of having a keyboard?

Thanks,
Fine

I'm not going to say it is impossible, but I have similar keypad for use with laptop, and tried connecting to desktop and using it in ED but I couldn't get it to work.
I couldn't find a way of mapping the normal "wasd" keys to the arrow keys (8, 4, 6 and 2).

Very strange. Thank you though! I really appreciate it!

If set on using that keypad, try AutoHotKey. I use it for games that can't have keys remapped. Should work in this case.

Or get one of these:

46 key Delux keyboard

Sits between the throttle and joystick of my HOTAS and works brilliantly.

Not a bad idea. I like the compactness of a keypad though. My plan is to make a PVC stand or use a vesa mount on my chair for my HOTAS and mount the keypad right in front of the throttle in the style of the Saitek PRO Flight X-65F. Then I would through on some custom Elite decals on the keys. Thanks for the idea though, i'll definitely keep that in mind! :D

Don't know that it would for me. I have very, very long muscle memory of using the normal keypad arrow keys for up/down/left/right, with right hand, from using cad packages before even mice were a normal part of computer systems. Tracker balls were just about available, at arm and a leg prices.
I'm still not happy with "F" keys across the top of keyboard, I prefered them on the left, and only 10 of them.
