This is just off the top of my head, and the scope is expanding as I'm writing this, but I think it would be great if we had some canned communications in the comms panel. At first I was thinking text, but why not voice? Maybe select from a few voices - or maybe even record your own an upload wav files. Or if text, have a few slots where you can add your own.
At first I thought this would be for players - various canned greeting and replies you could select rather than typing. I play in VR so that would be a big help. I know there are ways of doing this with some 3rd party programs and macros, but it would be nice to have it in game.
But why limit it to players - why not NPCs as well? So if some NPC pirate threatens you, you can quickly reply that you surrender and don't shoot, so you can have a bit more time to jettison some cargo w/o getting shot while fumbling in the menu. Of course, the NPC would recognize these canned responses and act accordingly. Or maybe you could apologize for accidentally shooting somebody so they don't turn hostile. You know, things like that. I'm sure there are plenty of common situations where some canned, and possibly branched, communications, and repercussions of same, can be applied.
Anyway, not much thought given to this so far and just throwing it out there, but I think could add some fun to the game.
