Cannons need to make a sound.

So most weapons make a sound, but cannons don't really. If a shot hits, that makes a sound, but the cannon itself, when firing, does not. Ironically if the goal was realism, obviously there should be no sound of a hit anyway. However, whether or not the goal is realism there really should be some sort of sound from the cannon itself as it fires -- if nothing else a muffled thump as vibrations travel through the ship structure (while I'm sure it would use tons of damping, it couldn't stop all vibrations surely.) Even assuming it's not using some mechanism that would make noise on its own (I'm assuming it in some way uses explosions -- presumably with something like some sort of shells that include oxygen along with whatever chemicals it oxidizes for the explosion -- which would definitely produce significant vibrations, but if it were something like, say, some sort of sliding rail mechanism -- though I can't really imagine how that might work to produce enough inertia to have any use -- that would involve charging up systems that release significantly all of a sudden so should definitely produce quite a noise on its own.

I know this sounds like a silly nothing thing, but as cannons actually have a fairly significant reload time and I can't really hear, it actually throws off my timing and half the time I have no idea if I've actually fired a shot yet or not (using fixed weaponry.) I know this is partially just me as I'm a more sound-oriented person than most probably and I have more trouble really watching the interface since I rely more on sounds on things like that, but it throws off my timing and makes it very confusing to use cannons for me. But, nonetheless, it is a point for even people who don't care much that it should still make a sound. Especially given that this is something where even lasers somehow make a sound... It makes it very weird in comparison.

EDIT: Or maybe it makes a sound, but I can't really hear it because everything else is so much louder in a fight. I guess it should be a lot louder or something. Actually, rather than everything making a sound on its own, maybe it should be more like a tone the ship systems make to let you know... That would be a lot more realistic than so much sound travelling through space. Guess that won't happen, but perhaps it's at least worth considering? Either way I do feel like we need a bit more feedback.
