Cannot bring myself to finish the grind for Triple Elite.

Having spent two years playing on PS4 and reaching Elite in exploration and trading, I can no longer see myself carrying on to reach elite in combat. I have unlocked most of the engineers and all the ships, but unfortunately this is where it ends for me.

A couple of days ago I took the plunge and bought a mid range gaming PC, bought Elite Dangerous again, hooked up my PSVR using iVry, and all I can say is WOW, what an experience!

The game will never be the same for me again and I am so looking forward to starting from scratch, playing in a more dangerous environment and experiencing everything the game has to offer. I am even looking forward to the work required for unlocking the engineers.

I am playing as CMDR meSidious and look forward to meeting you all in the black. o7 Commanders!

I do not share triple Elite fever, what is the profit?.. The most funny I found is that people have double Elite except combat one. Maybe because I have only Elite and it is combat. And I did it just playing game the way I like without rush (forcing myself killing thargoids for example). The people seems to play the game very different ways.

I find I'm enjoying the game most when I'm pursuing more immediate and organic goals than chasing achievements like PF or naval ranks, or even Engineers. Though such things may be required to unlock certain content, the process itself is usually more enjoyable if one paces one's self and enjoys what's available in the here and now, rather than always looking over the next hill.

Anyway, have fun with your new CMDR and enjoy the transition to PC.

lol, was going to ask what the difference is, but just learned that the ps port doesn't work at all with psvr. stunning, i had no idea. it is indeed a new game for you, enjoy!!

I got elite in exploration the other day. Don't know how it happened. I mostly do combat and I'm still "only" dangerous. Tycoon for the trade rank. Go figure. I suspect trade and exploration missions grant some rank increase, while combat rank only increases with kills you score. A bit silly it's not the same rule for all the ranks, but the game is still fun so all is cool.

@OP, carry on cmdr!

I've been double-Elite for a long time, but only Master at combat (which is quite funny, as I haven't mastered it at all :D). I suspect it will stay that way a long time, as I am certainly not going to be "grinding" just to get a rank. It'll be nice when my crew aren't higher ranked than me, though!

There is no going back once you've experienced E: D in VR. And other games just pale in comparison (imo, obviously).

Triple elite is something that lies ahead of me. Tho bit closer since I'm double elite already, with combat at still mostly harmless. Exploration was first and done "by the way", I just went one to Sag, once to Colonia, handful of 5 and 10k LYs loops. Last exploration update helped much as it pushed my final 2 ranks progress almost in a blink of an eye. Trading elite I made with simple tedious A-B runs. Mostly cargo missions - main reason was credits - but had few sessions with GalMap, system state and such. I made final elite just because I noticed I'm 1.5 rank under it. Getting to that point took about 2 years of lazy playing.

Now combat elite is what's left. I have ships dedicated for that role (FDL and Corvette). I have credits to outfit said ships and cover rebuys. What I don't have is engineers (except FSD which won't help much in combat) and will to actually do it. Combat isn't my main game anymore, I had my share of fighting while playing X-Wing/TIE Fighter/Freespace.

I may one day achieve that level but I expect it will take some time. Slow overall rank progress combined with casual combat session, yeah. No pressure tho - I treat combat (mostly bounty hunting <which couldn't be farther from what i have envisioned>) as a part time job.

Congrats on the switch!

I want VR, but there's a very long lost of things I need first. So it won't be happening anytime soon.

As for combat rank grind, the quickest way is to outfit a decent hull tanked ship with AX/aAX/Regular Multicannons and murder Thargoid scouts repeatedly. (y)

Welcome to PC gaming, have fun ;)

Personally I've been combat Elite for over 3 years now, trade Elite only since Void Opals exist (although I was already at Tycoon before that), and passenger missions have brought me a good way towards exploration Elite, but since 3.3 dropped I'm motivated to finish it doing actual exploration, which is tricky since there's always something calling me back to the bubble ;)
I'll get there eventually, no need to hurry.

I'm not the slightest bit interested in Triple Elite. I'm Elite in Trading but couldn't even tell you what I am in the other two!?

For me, trade was the last, even though constantly doing CGs for years. Meta-Alloys finally helped. For Combat, I would simply go hunting scouts nowadays, for all of them are Elite and available in abundance. The biggest problem is finding hi-ranked NPCs at Dangerous and above, so the Thargoids help a lot ;)

Considering VR, I bought a Rift two years ago and hardly ever played ED in pancake mode anymore (except on the notebook). It's a game changer.

O7,
🙃

Been playing for 3½ years, just about to hit 1000hrs. Im around 90% complete in all 3 categories and have never once even bothered in trying to hurry and complete them. Nor have I ever used any exploits to speed the ranking process up. At this rate, I reckon I will be triple elite just as the "big" update comes out next year.
