Ok, so I got a kill mission, went to the system, was told they're not there so I need to speak to a contact in the neighbouring system. I read posts telling me they'll contact me via comms panel, but nothing came up when I entered the system and I been here 20 minutes now just flying around waiting, scanning every ship contact I see. Am I missing something, or what's going on?

It happens sometimes, often enough to have an easy fix. Jump out of system and back or drop out of supercruise and back that should retrigger your contact
Dropped in and out multiple times. Will go to another system and back, see if that helps.

Apparently second time changing system was the charm.

Not that it helps me. It sent me to a system that's far too far for my little viper to make it to and get back from without an upgrade I took this mission to fund.
