Discussion Cannot find Player Journal .log

Greetings Commanders,

Lately i've been trying to install tools like ED Discovery and EDMC and realized that I cannot find the .log file for Player Journal that these tools need. Same for Inara and EDSM.

It seems like the default directory of Player Journal (C:\Users\%userprofile%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous) simply doesn't exist on my pc.
Although in my AppData there is something (C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous).
In this directory there is a folder "CommanderHistory" which contains a file which looks like the one needed but with a different extension "Commander3822237.cmdrHistory" (.cmdrHistory instead of .log) .

After trying installing EDMC i cannot even insert my credentials because it cannot find the Player Journal file, even after I direct it there through settings tab. Same applies to ED Discovery.

Is there any kind of solution to this or am I just looking in the wrong place for that file?

PS. I have the steam distributed version of x64 ED which is installed in a steam library on my D:\ HDD.

PPS. I am not sure if I should post this in this forum or in the bug reports.

Thanks in advance!

C:\Users\%userprofile%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous should be the right location.

Can you manually create the folder path?

EDIT: any result from searching journal.* ?

what language you are using? "saved games" will be localized

Windows automaticly localize "Saved Games"...
You can use "Saved Games" or "Gespeicherte Spiele",... both point to same target.
Same as "Documents" and "Dokumente" or "Program Files" and "Programme" or "User" and "Benutzer" ...

If default settings in ED used there shouldnt be any locale problems

And as I said above there is a Commander*** file .. but it is not in the *.log* extension ... I dunno
This file is unimportant. You need the *.log files inside "..Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous"
Did you try to create this folders?

Creating the folder manually actually did the trick. My windows must've messed up because I couldnt even create the folder till I shared it with the homegroup. But now the folder and the logs are there and are working fine. EDDiscover and EDMC are working properly.

Thanks for help!!

I have just encountered the same problem - using a legacy installation on my D:\ drive, tried to use EDEngineer, couldn't find my journal files.

I tried creating the folder in my "Saved Games" folder structer, both in my C:\ and D:\ drives, but to no avail.

I even tried a complete re-installation (due to available space again on D:\) but it gives the same result - no Journal files.

Does anyone have another idea what to do?

After some digging around, I found that the important step mentioned above is making the "Saved Games" folder accessible to the home group with read/write access. It will need to access the folder located in the same drive as the ED install directory (in my case, the game tries to access D:\Users\%userprofile%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous.

I made that directory available to the home group and it works now - just thought I'd document this if someone tries to figure it out in the future.

First time user! I get this Error. What have I missed...thanks
