Cannot launch ED anymore

I thought I would come back and give ED another try now as I have VR headset and new HOTAS, however I am struggling to get the game to run anymore and seem to be going around in circles following different guides. I have three options from launching within Steam

1) When I try to run it from steam I get a launcher come up but only an option to run the demo.

2) If I choose to run ED: Horizons the launcher comes up again but keeps saying an update is needed. I have tried re-installing and checking integrity of files but steam won't update anything.

3) If I choose to run in VR the launcher comes up with the update warning but then the game does launch automatically after 1 second but only the demo is available and it's not in VR.

I have spent a couple of hours on this now and got really confused what accounts I have linked where to try and get this running. If anyone can help please.

I don't use steam, so don't know if this is relevant, but have you tried updating the launcher? If you've been away for a while it's highly likely that you need to install the most current version of it which is 0.4.6568.0.

As I said, not using steam myself I don't know how you install the launcher, but if you do install it manually then that's worth a look. Downloading the most recent client installer can be done from the Frontier store. This is a direct link to download the installer.
