Canopy breach: What a rush! (Pun intended.)

Took on a mission to get rid of Paelo , who had been causing a lot of trouble. (Mind you, with a name like that I'd be pretty off at the world, too.)

Seemed like a no-brainer until I found out it was an Anaconda. Still, my Python managed to get him eventually.

Unfortunately my canopy was breached towards the end of the fight, and so it was a mad dash to get to a space station within five minutes. Got to the station in time, but ran out of oxygen just as I was entering the mail slot. And without the insurance to cover it, it was back to the Sidewinder for me.

A bit sad, but my own fault. And one hell of an adrenaline rush.

The best part? Having to angle the Python so I could see enough of the HUD to find the station. (It only appears on the bits of the canopy that are still intact.)

Oooh, bad luck. Now I understand telling yourself, "Well, it's just one trade run, what could go wrong?" But what in God's name possessed you to go on an assassination without insurance?

Seriously, also, dude, at least upgrade your life support one or two grades. That extra dough and little bit of power draw would have made the difference for you, I never, never forgo getting at least a decent LSS, probably because I had a similar experience while I was still in my startwinder, but I survived it, only barely.

In hindsight it was a stupid move. But I was really desperate to get rid of my "Hostile" status with the Federation, and I thought this might seal the deal.

It's the first time I've ever had a canopy breach. But yes, will definitely be upgrading my life support in the future.

And now it's back to the grind. (Fortunately I had enough cash to buy myself a T6 and have some spending money for commodities.)

I'm not bummed at all. Just another part of the Elite experience.

Lesson learned, albeit a very hard one. +1 for not being salty about it.

Yeah, it can be pretty heart thumping stuff making it back with a breached canopy. Happened to me in my Vulture, luckily I got back in time. Sorry to hear about the loss of your Python, I'd never fly one without insurance though.

Nice to hear you've taken the loss with good grace, with a T6 you'll be able to make a decent amount of credits.

No salty tears?

Are you feeling alright?

Did you lose your hat when the canopy blew?

There must be something you can complain about. Wasn't it cold without a canopy?

Can we clone you, this is so rare.

Cool story. Well done for accepting and even enjoying it.

My most awesome Elite moment was taking down an elite Conda in my little Viperina.Canopy busted within the first 30 secs, made the battle ten times better.
Make it to the station and reclaim the bounty with a countdown surely makes the blood pump :D

You live and learn, now new ships you use MIGHT have better life support for longer time without canopy.

Not sure how you could lose your shields with triple boosters there or is your Python in some kind of cheapo fitting? And flying without insurance? Cripes! No need to play Russian Roulette.

I lost my canopy yesterday to a Conda. As he was down to 2% I carried on fighting and finished him off, as it wasn't far to an outpost and I have a D class life support. The only problem is, it was an outpost that doesn't do repairs!
Thankfully the LS resets when you enter the hanger, but then there's the slightly panicky search for a system with a station that does repairs and can be reached in 7½ minutes :)

Losing your canopy is indeed, as the OP puts it, a rush. sorry to hear you didn't quite make it OP, +rep for enjoying yourself even in the face of the insurance screen.

Back in the Lugh war, I remember fighting against a much bigger ship than mine. I'd got his hull down pretty low (single figures, I think), and he tried to flee by frame shift. I came towards him, all guns blazing, boosting to keep up.
You can probably see where this is going.
Yes, I destroyed the last 1% of his hull by ramming into it. The same thing also stripped my shields, knocked me to 20% hull (from about 85%+) and smashed my canopy. This was then followed by a mad rush to the nearest station and then VERY gingerly docking my crippled ship. One of the most relieving things you can hear the ship's computer say is "Atmosphere... restored." Phew!

Yes, it's these types of encounters that make the game so compelling for me.

I had a heart in my throat moment recently because I was an idiot and did not double check my power configuration. I had recently upgraded my shield generator from B to A and changed my cannons from gimballed to fixed, thinking that the difference in power would be minimal.

Well, it was minimal enough. I jumped into a USS and as three sidewinders closed in, I activated my hardpoints, and my ship died......Thrusters, shields, Lasers, everything...gone....

(Yes folks there's a reason you don't put everything as priority 1 in power management).

I stood in shock...What the hell??? By the time I snapped out of it, I was down to 50 percent hull. I retracted the hardpoints, energized the thrusters and boosted six times before I engaged FSD and limped home.

I later found the culprit. I had upgraded my fuel scoops on the previous visit and forgot to assign them a different priority. And since I was only running two priority levels, (pri 1 was combat systems, pri 2 was non combat systems) it was enough to drop the entire ship.

I was so close to paying nearly a million credits for my lack of planning, but the threat of death was a rush.

Needless to say, I now use ALL 5 priority levels. Pri 1 has thrusters only in it....

If I remember correctly, Faulcon DeLacy did a massive recall on the Pythons for canopy issues. Python owners were offered a trade of 1781.25 Sidewinders in exhange for one of the affected Pythons. A knew a guy in the Bamu system who accepted the trade, he couldnt be happier.

Great story.. we've all been there..and yeah...it's a real adrenaline rush!! props and +1 for your attitude. :D

Yes that is true. I actually met him too in Bamu, I was trading som "hot" ore , if you know what I mean, I "picked" it up near Zomlymskaya, short 12 LS of Ibeltyou Station, well it was floating.. Never mind, now this Cmdr had already used 628 of these Sideys, and was usually drunk as a Pope, when he flew, anyways he was thirsty also in dock , just like me and we had a few, and almost got splatted on the dock , cause we could not find our quarters, we were actually not quite sober.
Anyways a few day later I leave Bamu, I was infact invited to leave, Hehe and when I got to Omygodiambroke system at Canyouspareadime Hub I was told , first news , that this guys luck had run out !
Aparently he had been going to the Illmakeakilling system to buy some "stuff" when by pure horrible accident, he looses his grip on the whiskey mug ! Now this was bad enough on its own, but when he reaches down to pick it up, his head pushes the stick forward, changing couse right into the Freighter "Mother Molly" , yes a Lak 9 , bad very bad. Unfortunately his Pod never released, telemetry suggested it was jammed, everybody guessed by what, until the Cmdr of "Mother Molly" , Rudminskia Julianov Dragonovicia, you prolly know her, said she had never sen so much glass shards and whiskey droplets in space before !
Well I had a few with "Rudi" and she was very sorry, really. I did my best to comfort her, as she has some very interesting, well points :)
Ill be on my way now heading for Youwantlikethis , Iam told its a nice place.
;)

Cheers Cmdr's

I know your troubles well, my friend. This was the last time I investigated a Strong Signal Source. 4 'condas. Took 2 out, hurt #3, but 4... well, you see what's what.
